Oh BL, what a mess. I really hope you get better soon, this is the last thing you need after all the palaver with departing/arriving lodgers.

I`m sure we`d all rather just have drama at the house that doesn`t cause you any physical pain or property damage... ;-)

exactly, try and rest as much as you can in the meantime BL

Sorry to hear about the stroke Ellie.
If you or anyone else needs practical advice and support, there are several posters who have been through the stroke problems and struggled back to some sort of normality as the suffer struggles to recover.

Well I've been thrust back into work at full speed, and have taken on a new contract that means more travelling than I've ever done in my life before! Since my accident in August I've been to Sweden, Denmark, Russia, the USA and Peterborough. Which all sounds very glamorous (with the possible exception of Peterborough) but in fact is just exhausting, a bit lonely and vastly unappreciated by my colleagues who think I'm off on a jolly rather than fighting jet lag and working 12 hour days.

Worse is that, rather than go home every weekend, I've been going home once every three weeks. I was so excited about going back last weekend (the one just gone), but everything seemed to get on my nerves:

    - I went to stroke Tufter and he flinched :( Although he did warm to me again after a little while.

    - BigGunsLodger was sent home from work with a contagious face rash () so he was flopped on the sofa watching TV pretty much the whole time. Not so bad, but he insisted on having the projector on and the surround sound at top volume (shouting volume) even at 1am. For things like Coronation Street. The house is soundproof enough if you're on the top floor, but my room on the middle floor was no good at all. I ended up decamping into the spare room.

    - I forgot that my local shop doesn't take cards, so I filled my basket, scanned all the items, bagged them in my reusable carrier bags and then had to walk away because I didn't have cash on me.

    - Just before I had to leave again, I noticed pieces of a ceramic ornament on the patio. I went indoors and said to BigGunsLodger: "Oh, did my ceramic hand get smashed?". Once he'd turned the TV down and had me repeat the question, he replied, "Yeah the cat knocked it off". I asked, "What was it doing out there? It was a gift from my sister", and his only comment was, "I dunno, it's been there ages". Now, it's not that I blame him for the event (although he is a smoker and it was ashtray shaped), but if he witnessed it happening, even if he did not feel an admission or apology was due, why did he not think to pick the pieces up? Leaving it spread across the patio just looks like... well like no-one cares.

I actually cried when I left - it didn't feel like I'd been home at all :( So I've spent the last couple of days tidying up my London flat and making it feel cosier, so at least that can be my home for a while. Just as well, because my body's completely forgotten how to sleep!

  • BigGunsLodger needs to have the ruddy riot act read to him! And have his contageous face rash confined to barracks before everyone else gets it. Seems that your absence has made some people in the house rather unappreciative. I'd be doing everything I could to nip that nonsense in the bud asap especially the lack of interest in looking after your things. Bloody cheek! Seems a few consecutive weekends at home is in order to lick BigGuns back into shape or it's his marching orders, I reckon.

Perhaps you can do a deal on the duty frees with your lodgers?;)

Mind you if it is not a direct flight, life can get difficult at the transfer point.

Oh, Badger_Lady, this doesn't sound like a good position for you to be in. Very sorry to hear about it.
Can you get home more often to mark out your territory again?
Sounds as though everyone needs to be reminded who is the lady of the house, including the lovely Tufters!
