Well, last night's potential lodger was a right royal pain!

He asked if he could come for a viewing on Monday and I said, "yes but I won't be home until 8pm - is that OK?". He replied, "OK, I'll ring you after 6pm".

Well I missed his call because I was in a meeting at work so rang him back at 7pm and got, "I'm at the train station near your house, how shall I get there?", so I told him, "You can walk or get a cheap taxi but I'm still in a different city and won't be home for about 45 minutes yet."

So, to be nice, I rang BigBruvLodger who agreed to make him a cup of tea and chat to him until I got there. I texted PotentialLodger with the good news.

Well, PotentialLodger arrived, left the taxi waiting outside and told BigBruvLodger, "I'll just look around now, quick look, and will email BadgerLady". Well, guess what? Doesn't matter if you email me, you're not moving in! Awful behaviour and I don't allow people who can't be bothered to meet me in person to move in .

Tonight's chap should be better. He's a little older and "very keen"

  • Cheeky monkey! I hope that taxi-fare was really expensive.
  • oh dear..........was that really so bad? Maybe he didnt want to waste your time and was just checking it out quickly so that he could come back at a later date and chat if it suited. Maybe he has a social and communication disorder.............maybe I'll just shut up. :D

The main point is that he will have to come back and spend some time talking to us before we can even consider letting him move in... in which case his visit was a waste of time for everyone. The secondary point is that, whatever the reason, if he can't stick to a prearranged time can I really trust him to stick to his rental agreement?

Anyway, last night's chap didn't show up at all. He didn't even respond to my text. So I've completely lost faith - Room 1 is coming off the Market!

    Awwwwwww, noooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Maybe you should offer weekly lets to fans of the Badger House thread. A kind of holiday/reality show mix.

I'm not used to it, Ellie! It's NEVER been this difficult before! As much as the money helps, I'm fed up of the hassle :(

Oh no please don't give up, BL! I've spent all morning reading Tales from the Badger House - as a relative newbie to the lodger business I'm learning loads and would be heart-broken if your story stops now.

ps. Came on here for inspiration after opening post without m'glasses on; then when I'd located my specs, found no less than three bailiffs/CCJ letters to my ex-lodger (ripofflodger) in the pile!
  • Frosti, get your proof of identity and proof of ownership and keep them somewhere handy. You're going to need to show them to the bailiffs when they turn up on your doorstep. Having a forwarding address for that loonylodger would be helpful as well

Well I had a random phonecall about an hour ago from a PotentialLodger, who's coming round this evening to look round (I have to go out of my way a bit to see him!). I don't know anything other than that he lives 2-3 miles away with his parents at the moment.
