  • I think we're fairly safe with regards to what's already been paid... the authorities did a lot of investigation when she first moved in (accused us of having a relationship!) and I had to send them a lot of information before they started paying. So she was definitely entitled then.

They haven't paid anything since her sick note ran out, so it's just that bit we're after.

Was talking about LHA with a neighbour the other day. She reckons if the person spends it the council pay it again...
If it's true then it seems insane unless they pay it direct to the landlord the second time and then make the person pay it back...

i obviously missed when you got a new BF! Is he BF2 or BF3? ;)

I have been a bit coy :p We've been together 3.5 months now, I've made friends with his mother and siblings, and I'm whisking him off to the South of France to meet my parents in a couple of weeks. He's very nice :D

Thats not true at all and the tenant can be prosecuted for fraud for having taken HB and not put it towards housing costs.

I get cheap holidays in the south of france too :D.
Just to clarify you would only be liable for anything paid direct to you by the council and not what quackers pays you.

  • Total embarassment last night - BF's only started reading this thread! So no-one be nice to him.

There was a bit of Facebook upset as well... in a spontaneous moment I decided to subtly change my status to "I really need some rent :-(", which got the reply, "Is that a dig??" and a change of status to "I'm really F**ed off and sick of having no money".

I might go home tonight and check on the cat...

When I had a tenant not pay earlier this year - said Giro hadn't arrived, I said I would go down to DoHSS with them - this was Saturday, moved out Sunday, and yes they had had their rent. Luckily I got to Council before the next one was due, (about 4 days later) and they sent what was due to me after I sent them a letter as to what had happened.
They were obviously counting on the sympathy vote, hoping to get the next one, and then clear off.
If your lodger genuinely hasn't got their rent they won't mind you going with them - if they have, then at least you know, but sorry, you will have kissed goodbye to what she owes you.

By the way, hi from Marseille, we are stopping at son's for a few days. Its really hot down here - too hot for me.

Well done on loosing all that weight by the way.

Well if Quackers is feeling guilty, sorry, but that's just tough! You are not her Mum, she owes you rent. (Seems like a lot of rent!) and quite frankly, if that was me, that house would be absolutely shiny bright because I would be aware that you were doing me a favour by letting me stay. In most places, no rent = no room.

Stay strong - and go check on that cat :rotfl:

(I love Facebook! You need Farmville, it will chill you out AND replace the chickens in your life...)
