Big Badger House (aka Noisy Lodger) HE'S GONE!

I had a lodger who I think in the 40 odd weeks he lived with me paid me on time 4/5 times and he was paying weekly! In the end I got fed up chasing him for the money and asked him to leave.
He was similar and I guess didn't really care but thats life and thats lodgers
I think your bloke is right but maybe not in an intentionally wrong way, Quackers may just be a bit crap with money or she just maybe like this naturally!

I agree with your boyfriend B_L, you are being taken for a ride. My daughter was on HB briefly after finishing uni last year and claimed it. she had it within a week or two.
All my lodgers have had to pay me with a standing order, it's been a condition (imposed by me) of their occupancy.
She sounds like she has deep pocket and very short arms.Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j0 -
Change the locks Badger-Lady, then at least you'll hear from her when and if she returns and tries to get back in. Don't let her mess you around any longer. Ebay purchases? Train tickets? Why don't you just buy her a cabin in the Bahamas and an airline ticket and be done with it?0

Heh,heh, heh. Reminds me of a time when I let a friend stay with me for 2 weeks because their AST ended before they were due to fly back home overseas. Of course this was free of charge, a standard favour for a friend, glad to help.
More than 2 months later, and around the time when I kept seeing her wearing new clothes and new shoes on her way out socialising again, I asked her what her new plans were, now that she had evidentally decided to stay on in the UK. She took the hint and found onward accommodation.0 -
Thanks all - I definitely need to straighten out exactly what's owed and when... first action! I would feel much more comfortable getting the money direct. Which is odd, because before she moved in I felt better about her getting it and passing on - I guess just because I was so used to honest, reliable people.
I'll have a straightforward chat with her when she gets back, and get us to sit down together and write it all up. Maybe having it in black and white will firstly demonstrate the size of her debt, and secondly give her something to push the authorities with (if indeed that's an appropriate action).

There's nothing like a deadline to clarify the mind, therefore you could consider setting a target date when the arrears must be cleared or a repayment plan produced (and stuck to) otherwise you are afraid that notice will be automatically be served - this may act as a motivator either to pay up or ship out. By the sounds of it, both would be preferable but would you settle for one or the other? Hence the ultimatum to prod her into action.0

Well we've had a good old chat tonight and she's on the case... last time, she got an MP involved to help so she's going to contact her again. Apparently she wasn't actually expecting the HB to stop and there's been some exasperating chasing of departments already. She's also going to get money from her boyfriend to cover the other miscellaneous items...

You have to be careful with this because if it turns out she isnt entitled to it they will chase you for the money back and not her.:staradmin5k - 00:27:46:staradmin 10k - 00:57.03:staradminHalf - 02:01:15:staradmin5M - 00:44:07:staradmin0
