Big Badger House (aka Noisy Lodger) HE'S GONE!

  • I've sent this:
Hey, I hope you didn't get too stressed out about this yesterday... I was out all evening hence the late (and drunk!) response.

I had a thought - maybe it would be more helpful if I got involved. I've still got a load of holiday to take from work, so I could take a day or two to come down to DHSS with you and kick up a fuss. They have to take action if the landlady's threatening to throw a young, disabled, pregnant girl out on the street right in front of them!

I know you're worried about it too... In my laid-back way I hadn't really thought about the impact of NiceSoFarLodger moving out (and keeping his room empty), plus mortgage jumping up at the same time, and then not getting the housing benefit for your room either. It all mounts up.

So I want you to know that I'm on your side and that I'll help out wherever possible - let's make this council take us seriously!

    Look after yourself xx

  • That`s a good email, she can`t argue with that.

You need to make sure that you have the roof over your head as the main priority, and to be honest it sounds like she`s not giving you the respect you deserve with all this palaver & the non-cleaning...

Right, let me know if I am understanding this correctly...

after advice that she was eligible for an interim HB payment ages ago and allegedly escalating the claim to her MP, and a suggested ultimatum that unless rent arrears were paid by x date or notice to quit would be issued, roll on some weeks later...

and you are now looking forward to the rent being paid via a credit card being issued to someone with no income?

    Or have I misunderstood this?

So, hopefully it doesn't sound rude if I suggest that slack lodger has met their equal match in disorganised landlady?

It must be terrifically hard now to be business like about it since you've effectively established a culture of no or late payments and huge indulgence and tolerance of the situation.

After all, it is the lodgers responsibility to pay the rent on time and deal with arrears - i.e. it is her fault if she fails to effectively chase up the local council to pay it however frustrating they are to deal with.

Could there be any chance at all that your lodger has in fact received the LHA in full and has simply spent it on themselves and is a supreme b*llsh**ter?

Badger - you are too soft for your own good, HB doesnt take that long to sort out, in fact I had some when I was on the dole and put in an application before the end of trading period on the dole (new deal for self employment) and then my HB continued, I then had to submit another claim and it was sorted pretty much straight away. I think your lodger is telling fibs to be honest with you.

As for getting a credit card - one wonders who she pinched it off? It is hard to get one when you are on a low income.

If she is disabled why isnt she claiming Disability Living Allowance?

I would contact the council and tell them that your tenant for whom they are providing HB hasn't paid you any rent for months and see if they can pay you directly?

Well done on the new BF - if you have met his mum and you are taking him to meet yours...does that mean that those are wedding bells that I can hear ringing:rotfl:
