I got a couple of samples of the DHC cleansing oil:
    http://www.dhcuk.co.uk/display/goods.do?method=goods&goods_code=300&category_code=10101001

Does anyone think it's worth the £16? I was quite pleased with the results when I used it, and obviously it would be much cheaper to make an OCM but I'm not too sure that it would be as good as the bought stuff since it wouldn't wash off as easy with normal water.

I find no problem washing of the OCM, two or three wipes of my muslin cloth and gone.

Why do you think the OCM wouldnt wash off easily?

DHC is just olive and vegetable oils mixed with a bit of alcohol - surely not worth 16 quid

What age bracket are you doing the oil mix thing? What about the more mature - d'you reckon it would benefit those of us with little red thread veins and general skin uneveness?

Im 43 and its fine on my skin - oily, congested (was) thread veins, sun damage, open pores and seb derm.

Still have thread veins and the sun damage but on the whole my skin is positively glowing (mind I have also just stopped smoking). Pores are a lot finer, and skin is just so soft.

I dont think it will do any harm in having a go and perhaps doing a cleanse once or twice a week

Well the DCH stuff washes off just like a normal facewash, whereas with an OCM the oil hasn't been specially treated so it will do so - it will stay on my face all oily until I wipe it off. That's one of the reasons why I was first very skeptical about oil based cleansers in the first place, I thought it would be very oily, but the DCH stuff impressed me.

I might just be fussy, but I just want to be able to wash it off like a normal facewash, and not have to wipe off the oil.

Well its true you cant just "splash" off the OCM, you do need to use a face cloth of some description (be it a muslin or a flannel) but then doing that also lifts all make up and you dont need to go back with cotton wool to remove mascara and lippy as the DCH instruction say.

Personally I cant see where using a cloth is a big deal:confused: My face is left dry (near as, dont use a towel thats for sure) and moisturised

Its an interesting site that DHC (thanks for the link) a bit of a rip off though - 25 quid for a tiny bottle of olive oil:eek:

I'm 35 and been using the OCM for 3 days - a blend of 20% castor oil and 80% grapeseed oil. It cleans very well and my skin is soft, but I've noticed that my face is now quite shiny! not sure whether to continue with it or to give up.

    has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks

Dont use it so often, it is after all a deep cleanse treatment rather then an everyday wash. Your face will balance out slowly. My oily skin is not just an oily t zone which is no where near as shiny as it was before I started the oil cleanse. In fact today Ive done an 8 hour shift in a bar/restaurant the hottest day of the year and I can say hand on heart I have a bit of a glow, not an oil slick going on :)If you read the instructions again they say your face can become really oily for a while as it gets its balance back and then slowly go to "normal".

If you arent getting any dry patches you can increase the castor to up to around 30% which may help speed up the natural balancing process

I'm 35 and have red veins around my nose which i occasionally get done (IPL) when I can afford it... and then sit back and wait for new one to appear LOL... anyway, because of these I never use a really hot cloth or steam my face, but the OCM still works really REALLY well.

I have naturally oily skin, which certainly helps with wrinkles etc. (i got asked for id in tescos last week! :o ) so i've started using blotting papers (from tescos, but i searched for a more moneysaving alternative and found people were using cigarette papers, so i'm going to try those next... he he he). So although i still get shiny, my blackheads and congestion have just GONE and tbh i wished I'd known about this 20 years ago.... when I think of the money I've spent on various cleansers etc....

At night i usually feel way too tired to do the OCM (i'm a single mother, two small kids, run a business, about to go back to uni, just moved back to the uk from NZ... rah rah rah) - but somehow the minute I start massaging i really get in to it and start to enjoy it - it's almost like my fact LIKES to be stroked and loved for a bit at the end of the day :o he he he

Love it. I also got my castor oil at the local independent chemist, btw. And I just use extra virgin olive oil.
