As we have two very similar threads started by Mrs E, I'm going to merge them to (hopefully) avoid confusion!

Mrs E, if you find your tap water isn't hot enough, why not fill a vacuum flask from the kettle the night before and take that upstairs with you? It's still a change in routine, but a) it's in the evening rather than the morning and b) it's a smaller change as it doesn't involve an extra trip down and up stairs (unless you forget before your last trip up of the night!)
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I'm a huge fan of the Japanese cleansing oils particularly for removing make up gently and effortlessly (especially the Fancl and DHC ones) - but they're not that cheap. DHC costs around £16, although a bottle will last me 2 months (I only use it in the evening).

So, I tried the OCM about 2 months ago. I bought a mid/high range quality Olive Oil, Castor Oil and some Almond Oil.

The only result I got from the OCM was a faceful of painful spots. I kept persevering - to give it time to clear my pores, and I was making 100% sure that I wasn't leaving a residue behind. Still no improvement after 3 weeks.

I had to give up with it in the end. Couldn't stand walking around with a faceful of blind boil-like spots. I always wash with a mild soap after using the Japanese cleansing oils and was doing the same with the OCM. I have no idea why it didn't work for me, or what I was doing wrong.

Anyone else experience this or did it just work for you straight away?

Mrs E I dont know what the Japanese cleansing oils are but the OCM method its the castor oil thats the cleanser, the other oils are the carriers so I would think what you are suggesting will be over kill

Sugarspunsister, such a shame you didnt have any joy with the OCM. Just once again proof that not every method/product will suit all skins - regardless of skin type

i got 100ml of castor oil from my local chemist on friday for £1.33. then got some extra virgin olive oil today. my chemist is a small local one, not part of a chain, but the girl at the counter clearly didn't understand what i said so i had to speak to the pharmacist!! i guess not many people ask for it! it was with lots of other bottles of things behind the counter. will update after i've finished - hope it works well!

just one question - are you still able to apply any night moisturiser or should you just leave the skin "as is" after the oil cleanse?

so, had a go this evening and my skin certainly feels clean and lots of the black bits in my pores have gone! wonder how long it'll last.

it's actually great to spend some time just massaging your face and then steaming it..... i don't care if it's all an effect just due to that! well worth the time to switch off from all the other rubbish going on in life!

  • Don't know if anyones tried this, but i found a recipe for an aspirin face mask online. Just tried it and i must say it's pretty good. Im still eagerly waiting on my castor oil to be delivered as well cos i'm dying to try the oil one!!lol
    heres the recipe-
    aspirin face mask
Try an aspirin mask. Crush about 5 UNcoated aspirins & mix with 1tsp water (enough to make a paste). Apply to face & let dry (15 minutes). Wash off.
When mixed with water, aspirin forms salicylic acid which is a top ingredient in pore clearing solutions.

From what i gather it has to be dissolvable aspirin, although i have also tried the non dissolvable one which makes a good efoliater and gets rid of redness and large pores etc.
Hope this is of use to someone.

The article says if your skin doesn't feel tight after doing it, it's OK to just leave it as it is. If it does feel tight, it's OK to pat on a small amount of the oil mixture. Personally I just use my normal moisturiser afterwards and that works fine for me.
