  • Is there a reason for choosing Extra Virgin olive oil?

    I'm asking, not criticising :)

I shall look out for this -I too have very reactive skin and the stuff I was using very happily from Avon - they have stopped making :(

    Hi Suki

It is really tough when your skin goes mad.

If it is any help here are some other brands that do not give me a reaction. The Nivea Q10 range, which is anti-ageing (well when your skin is sensitive its great to have something like this) and strangely has a fragrance but its missing that something whatever it is that makes my skin go sore. The nivea night and day tubs of cream as well, although scented dont do any harm, although the rest of the nivea range sends my skin into hysterics...

dr nick lowe anti ageing day cream works for me but the rest of the range makes me all itchy

and in any and all emergencies la roche posay is a total and utter godsend - well to me anyway, it works and will never react

    hope that helps

    Hello,
I've just read this thread from beginning to end and have been to the pharmacy to get some caster oil, not sure I can wait until later to give it a go!
I think I've read somewhere on the tinternet that some people use coconut oil as the carrier oil has anyone else tried? I think I might do a 30/30/40 caster, coconut and olive mix and see what that is like.

Thank you ladies, with luck glowing spot free skin will be my christmas pressie! :)

I would have thought that if mixed with the other two that it might end up being at worst a thick paste?! I'll give it a go and report back :)

    Thankyou for that.

Niva burns me, well it used to and Im scared to try again. However I picked up a tub of olay ( the 7 one) and its fine - so far, no redness, soreness or shyness and my skin isnt looking too bad

I can't believe I have stumbled on this thread!!! I had no idea others were using oil to cleanse - I've been doing it for ages :D

First I used Bio0il as it has essential oils in it that I thought would be good for my problem skin - Once that had run out I decided not to spend that amount of money again so...

I started using Starflower Oil Capsules - split one open and applied it to my dry patchy skin (first used Vit E capsules but they are very thick and gloopy, starflower oil absorbs well)... then

about a month ago - my skin had some awful dry patches so I rubbed in a load of sunflower oil :D Rubbed it in, left it for the evening and wiped my face with a warm, damp washcloth when I went to bed - next day, no dry patches and much nicer looking skin.

So, now I use either olive oil or sunflower oil but having read this, I will def try castor oil so thanks for the tip :)

Be careful using caster oil if you're prone to dry patches. I think it's the ladies with congested skins that use it. I think it can cause dryness. I like almond oil (cheap too).

Yes I read that too - I think I will just use the castor oil mix once a week for a deep cleanse :)
  • I've read this thread with interest and have ordered some castor oil (not available in my local chemist) so can't wait to give it a go. Hope it works well! I think I'll mix it with olive oil and see how I get on :)
