What oil do you use for the "oil cleansing method"? (merged)

Hi
I have been going through the threads to work out whether to use grapeseed oil or olive oil and the ratios.
I have combination skin with spots on my forehead. I get back and white heads but at the same time, I have dry patches.
Can someone please advise me? Also, sorry to be a duh but how are you working out the ratios ie 80/20?

Originally I worked out ratios by measuring, so you could use a teaspoon...eg 2 teaspoons of castor to eight of other oil....and store the mix in a bottle. Now I just do it by eye: what I use varies.
I have very extreme combination skin: the dry skin has completely gone with OCM. I use jojoba mainly. I tried the baby oil mix suggested from Boots, but didn't like it, and I'm not a fan of the foody oils..purely on the basis of smell preference. A friend of mine uses olive oil and his skin is beautiful, really beautiful.0 -

Maybe that where I'm going wrong, I've not really been measuring, just 5p coin size of caster, and double-ish of jojoba. Maybe I should measure using similar to you and see if that makes any difference0 -
I have given up with OCM completely, just kept getting really painful boils everywhere no matter what ratio, type or how much i steamed!! just must not work for me. I have gone back to my normal cleansing routine and they have all gone.
i will continue with a fortnightly plain steam though, and have been using the oils as a deep conditioner for my hair so as to not waste them! Please be nice to all moneysavers!

I'm glad you found something that works for you. There is NO point continuing with something that doesn't work for you!0 -

exactly, its a shame though, as it was very relaxing!! i may do it as a treat every now and then... as more of a occasional facial than regularly?
i would still recommend anyone thinking about it to try it still. Please be nice to all moneysavers!

oh yes, they sound just like mine, never actually came to a head either, just really knacked for ages!! but as has been said, it wont work for everyone.
i started using the new neutrogena deep clean scrub, and they dried up a treat, and now i alternate between that and a few other faves. I get the odd one around that time of the month. but thats it. and my blackheads and congested bits actually look much betterPlease be nice to all moneysavers!

It would be interesting to know what you have in common and/or if anyone has found to successfully avoid or overcome this having had the same problem.0

Yea mine just look like boils rather than spots. I can't use neutrogena, it doesn't suit my skin, well last time a used it, which was a few years ago now though.
I'm a bit gutted it doesn't work, I've read such good reports over it, I've never had perfect skin but it's not been this bad for a while so it's lookin like OCM isn't for me0 -

I'm still continuing with OCM for a few weeks, just to see if these boils are due to my skin getting rid of all the rubbish or something. I've just tried a different ratio and think most of it dripped down my arms onto my clothes lol0
