Hi,
I've been reading through this and am very keen to try the OCM .. I know people do it every day and some once or twice a week - is it just a case of waiting and seeing how you get on?
On the subject of hot cloth cleansers - Soap and Glory do one (The Fab Pore - fantastic names!) which is £9 in Boots but can be taken as part of the 3 for 2 they're doing just now.
I haven't tried it myself but have tried their Queen Mary cleanser and read reviews from people with "problem" skin that's its fab.
Not sure how much Liz Earle comes in at now but may be a high street alternative for someone.
Now, off to find some castor oil ...0 -
hiya,
well i have been lurjking and have tried the ocm for the last 2 nights ( main attraction is how cheap it is), my skin has gone vile following an operation last year. My hormones and AF have gone very erratic and following my gp trying my on cerazette for a few months it has got worse, never had such painful or so many spots!!
so i am hoping this will help settle ans soothe my skin, its strange dealing with completely different skin type after 29 yrs of being combination!
im using castor and sunflower at 1 tbs castor to 5 tbs sunflower, as i can be prone to dryness depsite the spots, so will see how it goes. Please be nice to all moneysavers!

I use a combination of pure coconut oil, wheatgerm oil, grapeseed oil, lavender oil and tea tree oil.0

I've noticed that some people with rosacea have mentioned using the OCM - can anyone tell me if that has reduced the redness or just helped with the 'spots'? as I am more interested in reducing my 'red face' than clearing the spots.

I have just tried this for the first time tonight and first impressions are really good. I bought my castor oil off ebay and it was around £2.50 for 100ml delivered which isn't too bad as it will last me a long time. I mixed a couple of spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil with just a touch of castor oil (probably about a 90/10 mix) as I have had problems with dry skin lately and didn't want to make it any worse.
My skin looks really nice and glowing but not in a greasy way. It also feels very soft and smooth. I didn't massage it for 30 mins as some people do, more like 10 minutes (I'm lazy and get bored quickly!).
Generally my skin is quite average. I have large pores on my nose and get blackheads on my nose and chin sometimes. My nose gets shiny quickly during the day, except for in winter when my T Zone gets really dry thanks to central heating.
I am a bit worried about the "getting worse before it gets better" phase of the OCM but will try to persevere. Also worried that it has given some people serious problems with acne but from reading through this thread, it seems to fix problems a lot more often than it creates them.0 -

I am a week or so into using the oil cleansing method - I am now using jojoba oil all over my face with a drop of castor oil massaged over problem areas . So, probably a similar overall mix to yours and dryness hasn't been a problem.
(For my first couple of attempts at OCM, I used more like 70/30 ratio and I did get a little dryness and some reaction in congested areas.)
I have reverted to using the oils more as a mask/treatment three times a week - leaving the oils on for about half an hour but massaging for about ten mins of that time - I will probably step it up over time but my skin was a bit freaked out for the first couple of days so I am taking it steady and experimenting a bit. I am not sure this approach will 'clear' my skin totally (i wish!) but my skin is really soft and smooth, so it has been worth the cost of the oils already0 -
well so far so good, got a few spots coming out, but rest of skin looking ok.
found castor oil and almond oil in the world foods aisle at tesco tonight, castor was £1.60 for 250 ml, almond, £1.80 for the same amount... not bad at all really!!
hope these spots are the adjustment and hormone period seeing as i have AF visiting... fingers crossed it settles! Please be nice to all moneysavers!

Just bumping this query. Also some people mention using Simple facial wipes. Which types are best?
(I noticed that Superdrug were doing them for £1.99 last week and Tesco had 2 for £4.00).
Can you use the Simple Baby Wipes instead? (more in a packet and were at my local poundshop but the packet doesn't mention if can be used on the face).
Thanks:)0 -

Hi ih8stress. I have rosacea too. Last Monday I started with the OCM as face getting more and more upset. Earlier in the year, forgot to go get some proper sunscreen, did a load of gardening in the sun, ended up with angry face. Now have proper Clinique City Block 25 (price, ouch! but it works on me) so sorted on that front, but I was left with crusty red disaster cheeks.
I had only some sunflower oil so I just started with that, and apart from smelling a bit of chips, it's all good. On day 1, sharp line between angry red cheeks and greyish-white bags under the eyes (yes, I'm gorgeous, can you tell?!) began to fade out. I now (Thursday) have reduced redness and the crusty bits on the cheeks are disappearing.
Today I went and spent a whole £1.40 on 100ml of castor oil in Boots (under the counter!) and £1.90 on 200ml almond oil from health food shop, so we shall see if this works even better. With luck it will smell better!
I favour the face flannel (change it every other day) because it holds the heat better for the steaming bit than a muslin cloth. And I splash with cold water after for luck.
Because I use the City Block in the day, and I find it a bit drying, but know I am not supposed to put moisturiser under it (my daughter the soon-to-be Chemistry Masters graduate says, sunscreens that are chemical and physical like CB must be in *direct* contact with the skin to work their best), I do my OCM in the morning. Then at night, brief wash with Lush fresh farmacy followed up by smear of Lush celestial. That seems to do fine for me. I should add, I'm 53 going on 21, and have combination skin.
Good luck ih8!
