well my skin feels soft and the flaky dryness around my cheeks has gone. pores don't look any smaller though. and also a few spots (i expect it might take longer than two days to see results on spots though).
Having the flakes gone was a big deal for me!0 -
thanks lir. i might trying adding a little bit more castor oil. last night i just did a guesstimated mix into my palm. also, how long do you massage for? the link suggests 20 minutes but i'm afraid i got bored after 4 or 5. do you think the massage makes a difference? Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

you're welcome (its nice to be girly with you here, rather than debatey too).
I started just like you, mixing in my hand, then made a 30/70 mix which seems generally right for me: I have VERY difficult skin, hormaonal, but very dry patches, and (not any more) pores and oily nose/chin/ and pores on cheeks near nose. I still mess with the ratio, adding the extra castor as needed, but this really is the best my skin has been since I got ill, so most of adult life.
I was only doing a few minutes until veyr recently (the weekend?, read up a few posts) when I tried the half hour, and yes, it made a difference, but not enough for meo do daily, by any means. I've done it twice since then, and will try to do twice a week I think (when something good is on tv). What I do do dofferently, is I do two applications. So I put it on (usually in the shower) remove with the hot cloth, don't close pores with a cold one but repeat, leaving on while I wash hair/shave legs etc. My rationale is that the first is removing any dirt I've put on from the outside, the second on cleaner skin might be getting more out from inside the pores, coming out of me, IYSWIM. I found this better than the once for a couple of minutes. I just water wash in the morning usually, or perhaps a little plain jojoba oil (but will be trying the baby botanics oil next for some variety...and its cheaper than the jojoba oil I have).
I think the key is to read what every one else does and try it once, and find whats right for you, and your skin.0 -
i didn't close pores with a cold cloth either so maybe i should try that too. i didn't used to worry about pores but recently they seem to have become more noticeable. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

Once pores are open - they dont close
What happens is though is keeping them clean makes them less noticeable. Your pores are full of gunk which will turn into spots or blackheads if left long enough. The OCM loosens all that gunk making it easy to remove ( I apply gentle pressure on places the muslin hasn't worked on). So clean pores look smaller and less noticable. Also very clean skin will in its self become much more even in texture.
For myself since I discovered the OCM I have smooth cheeks. I still have slight problems along the ridge of my nose and chin - both areas I seem to never massage properly but make up stays and no longer does my face have (as my husband used to say) "holes in it"0 -
well i seem to have got a few extra spots but my skin also feels healthier. i'm willing to go with the theory that this is some of the gunk and congestion coming to the fore. also i've just started running again so that might be having an effect on spots. have got some almond oil to try as the carrier oil as i have been using olive. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

My skin also looks much better for this method.
I also do my initial one in the shower and last night my DH went in after me and asked if I had recently upped the life insurance as even thought I rinse the shower after I use it it was still very slippy! You can stand there and agonize........

Yes I have to agree with that! My skin certainly doesn't take any effort to "clean" now.
I've been doing the ocm for a few months now and I have to say it's absolutely fabulous!! I use 30% castor to 70% almond oil and have it in a pump bottle. I use it every night, and my skin is looking the best it has done for a long time :j:j.0 -

Thanks, thats really interesting! Mine certainly look smaller, or even invisible. I do find the cold water helps, and I also use rose water to tone ''sometimes'' but not everyday (the only reason being I forget!).
Suki, I'm glad you are about because I wouldn't have started this without you there to answer questions, and the difference its made to me is significant. That sounds shallow on a moneysaving site I know, but having the confidence to, for example, go without foundation, is really wonderful and I am so grateful to you for being there to reassure and encourage! Thank you, thank you, thank you!0 -
Just dropped by to update:
My skin is looking great! I use castor oil and jojoba oil at night (then use a smidgen of jojoba to moisturise) and in the mornings I give my face a quick going over with jojoba (mainly because I don't like just washing with water)
My face looks great (although not quite good enough to go without foundation) and my mineral foundation sits brilliantly.
Got a few spots to begin with but they've cleared up now.:j
And the dark circles around my eyes have gone too, don't know if this is anything to do with the massage but its great!!0
