Just a quick question for anyone using this method, do you just pour the oils in your hands? Or do you pour the amounts of each oil into a bottle? Really intrigued to see if this method will work on my skin.

I have a mixed up bottle, but took me a while to decide on proportions. Mine is 30/70 castor to jojoba. Also sometimes I think that I need a little more castor, so I add more to my hand. Or less, so adapt again. Themore ''even'' you skin is the easier a simple mix in a bottle would be I think. :)

ninky I'm so glad its helping you!

I had a terrible break out last week, really very bad, among the worst I've had, have stuck with OCM and used a spot cream from Avdea and skin is clearing remarkably quickly. I often take a very long time to clear a spot, and this break out was really dispiriting, but the rate if improvement has been...just wonderful.

re oils for skin moggylover , rose and geranium are some of my favorite scents, I might do that myself, and I tone with rosewater. I have wondered about lavender (v. slightly antiseptic) for ''breakout'' times, or maybe teatree...maybe better for a boy..less...''girly''? But I don't know ...:o
  • Thanks for your replies guys! This thread has been so useful.

I have ordered castor oil off ebay, so just waiting for that to come and have decided I am going to try Jojoba oil to mix with it and maybe grapeseed oil too.

Where do you get your Jojoba from lostinrates? I saw on the Holland and Barrett website that you can get it in there, is there anywhere else I could try if they don't have it in stock do you know? Also, if I were to get some grapeseed, is the cooking one from supermarkets okay to use?

I really hope my skin likes it as much as everyone elses has.

G rapeseed, olive, sunflower oils from the supermarket are all good to use. I use a sunflower and olive oil which is already mixed as recommended in the OCM guide - it give a great consistency and is as cheap as chips (lol)

I've seen in in Holland and Barratt too. :) It seems a safe place to try. I got mine at an independent health food store.

I'd try suki's suggestions first: she is my oracle as regards OCM, but also they are likely to be less expensive. I opted for jojoba oil mainly because I have extremely, extremely difficult skin and I know jojoba has been tolerated before (I had a bottle already). My skin was fine, but not as radiant, with almond oil, and, honestly..I don't like the smell of olive oil in toiletries.... but many do and it is raved about so its really worth a go.

If it's safe to eat, it should be safe to put on your skin :) So I would be happy to use grapeseed from the supermarket. I got my jojoba oil from naturallythinking.com. I ordered a grapeseed oil from there too, as I hadn't realised I could have got that in the supermarket. I also got a rose oil, which I'll try a little later.
My jojoba oil had leaked a tiny bit when I arrived, but I phoned them and they sent another bottle out straight away without charge.

have you ever tried manuka oil? i discovered this when living in new zealand, along with manuka honey which i'd never heard of before. manuka has far more of the active ingredients that feature in teatree. it does have quite a strong smell that i don't mind but my OH absolutely hates which was annoying as it was in all my favourite facial skincare products by a nz company called living nature. i tried persisting hoping he'd get used to the smell but it really used to upset him so even though my skin was fantastic i had to stop using them. hurrah for the OCM!

  • boots sells an olive oil for cosmetic use. my friend is using it for ocm. she said it's not as greasy as ordinary olive oil.

another friend has stopped using the castor oil because it made her skin break out in to horrendous boil like spots. she's got troubled skin though and said it was probably very old stuff that needed to purge. but she cant continue with it because she was too embarassed to go to work for a couple of days :(

I've never heard of manuka oil before! even n NZ:o....is it possible to get it here? Or should I ask someone there to send me some? I use manuka honey as a face mask when my skin is sore and angry, I think its fabulous.
  • Finally got my ingredients after reading this thread for ages.

Was going to get jojoba oil initially as I have read on other forums that people have found EVOO was too thick for their skin but they only had the large bottle in my Holland and Barrett so decided to forget that for the moment and try EVOO as you all recommended and see how I get on.

Just put it on for the first time so fingers crossed my skin doesn't erupt too bad! Is it normal for your skin to feel a tiny bit greasy afterwards? I got as much as I could off but feel as though my skin is still a bit greasy.

I have only done DS2's face two or three times (mostly because he doesn't like it done - rolls eyes) and the first result was the most dreadful mess of large and angry spots ever - although I knew it was cleaning out the blackheads whilst I was massaging because I could feel the little gritty bits on my fingers! He was horrified but agreed to just wash face with warm water each evening between oil treatments and then "tone" slightly with Witch Hazel and then apply a little Witch Hazel Gel. It isn't perfect yet - but it is much better than it was and he has agreed that I can carry on doing the oil two or three times a week for a while and see what happens.

LIR: If it was for me then I think I would fancy the rose but am not keen on Geranium at all. Thought about the Tea Tree for DS myself, but I know he doesn't like the smell of that because I use it in a home-mixed foot soak (along with Lavender) because it is supposed to be a good anti-fungal.

He won't mind smellin' like a rose so long as his face clears up:D
