I've been doing it every couple of days for about a week now. I don't steam, but put hot muslins on my face. I'm trying to build up the use and steam, but hopefully without getting spots!!
So far, no spots and my skin is great! Pores are much reduced and tone seems more even which I'm very pleased about.
Ordering some Elemental Beauty mineral foundation today, been using my samples and it's wonderful.

The hot muslin is enough of a steam - believe me. Just place the hot muslin over your oiled face till it cools then wipe off the oil - repeat if needed
You dont want to be steaming your face daily (as in traditional steaming)you will be doing more harm then good - burst thread veins are not a pretty sight. :eek:0 -
Didn't think of that!!! Thank you :j0

Welcome at long last glowgirl :j:j
Thank you so much, I shall kick myself super hard if I have wasted a year, I am keeping spots at bay with freederm gel which I love but at the back of my mind is this really isnt a long term thing, cant wait to get started tonight and shall follow your directions suki:) If it goes well I shall teach it to my dd, shes 14 with clear skin thats much less oily than mine but you can never start too early I guess:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Ok I'm such a child that I had to do it now:oI'm not going out anymore today so thought I would have a go here are my thoughts
On the plus side
Skin feels soft and cared for
On the negative side
Dont like the feel of the oil (I used 25/75 just made up one application)
Dont like the hot muslin cloth over my face (I have the Liz Earle ones)
Oil all over bathroom sink mixed with my make up - nice;)
I am going to stick with it though, I think I will know fairly quickly if its right for me, I do have an odd problem though I wear a lot of fake tan (not on my face) and the product I use is stripped by oil of any sort, would it be ok to wear surgical gloves to do the OCM? Also as I wear full make up is this not getting pushed into my pores? Should I remove most of it beforehand, it did remove it all but what a mess:D One more question, should I lay off the freederm gel (this makes me nervous:o) while I'm trying this out?
Thank for any help and replies:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
I'd like to know about the freederm gel too, I'm using it to dry out my acne right now, though I woke up today with 2 more spots in weird places on my face (Don't get them there normally)
Also, is the OCM method good for reducing the red blemishes left my spots? I have about 6 of those on my face and it just looks like spots!0 -
There's no need to take make up off and then use oil!!! The point is to use the oil as a cleanser...
The following may not make sense - but its how I think of it. When you massage the oil into your face you are 'loosening' all the stuff thats on your face - makeup and any impurities in your skin like spots/blackheads/blockages and they are suspended 'in' the oil on the surface of your face. When you use the hot flannel/muslin to steam your face and then wipe away - it removes the oil with all the 'gunky' stuff in it onto the flannel and away from your face. If you have lots of makeup product then I guess you will need to rinse and do the hot flannel bits more. e.g. I normal do 3 lots of hot flannel but if I've got lots of eye makeup then it might be a couple more.
And wierdly I find that although its more messy than eye makeup remover and cotton pads - because I look like a right panda freak when I'm massaging it into my eyes - it seems to work brilliantly. I can feel that all the mascara has come off my eyelashes and they feel supersoft after.
hope that helps any newbies to OCM!0 -
Thank you, that answers one question:) Yes, it did remove every scrap of make up efficiently just to update from a couple of hours ago my skin feels lovely but doesn't smell to good, if I like the OCM I will invest in some ylang ylang oil I think:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

glowgirl...take my word for it! Quit using all that stuff on your face and have faith!!
I don't do the full OCM, but then my skin is 'normal', balanced and no particular problems. I stopped using cleansers and toners in January (initially to save money) and just use oil for cleansing. I use almond oil applied with fingers and wiped off with damp cotton wool pads for removing eye make-up, then massage in and wipe off my skin to remove make-up.I wear an enduring foundation and simply repeat applications of oil until I feel it's removed. I simply tone with a splash of water. I rinse with a splash of water in the morning and use my normal moisturisers.
I WILL NEVER BUY CLEANSER AND TONER AGAIN IN MY LIFE!
I am totally committed to the belief that commercial cleansers, toners and so-called treatments strip your skin and ultimately cause inbalance and create more problems, thus perpetuating our need to keep spending!
Do persevere!

PS I don't know that you need to add the perfumed oils, maybe better to keep it as simple as possible. I prefer almond oil........ in the cooking oil section in Sainsbury's, £1.65 for 500ml, (I think!)....... lasts for ages. I found the almond oil very easily assimilated by my skin....love it as a general moisturiser too and the smell is more delicate!0 -
I cant answer about the freederm Im afraid and tbh I think of you do have true acne you need to do a bit more research. Im pretty sure I have read reviews from people with acne being pretty negative.
You have to think of the OCM as a deep cleanser. So if your spots are because of normal skin congestion due to oil, skin and makeup then you will get great results as the castor oil will just dissolve all traces of make-up to be wiped away and really work into the pores unclogging the hard plugs of sebum that are there waiting to erupt into spots and blackheads.
Use gloves if you have fake tan or it will eventually wash that away as well.
Im afraid an orange cloth is par for the course if you use make up. Your water needs to be hot enough to rinse the cloth through and clean your sink. I have to say I havent noticed a crummy sink after use but yes cloths do need changing often and given a boil wash now and then
Smell - thats why I myself dont use the strong olive oil. I use sunflower/olive oil mix - no smell:D0
