I've been trying this, as my skin is nasty right now thanks to the implanon.

It's not the spots that bother me it's the white congestion bumps under the skin, and the only area I have spots/congestion is around my chin and mouth.

I've been using freederm gel and it's made my skin 100 times worse! It's now all red and dry around my mouth and I look like a glue sniffer.

I sometimes put virgin oil on my face overnight as it reduces the redness a bit.

Anyhow, am I meant to steam my face before I apply the castor/olive oil mixture? I know to wash it off with hot water on a flannel.

Can anyone suggest a mositurises that won't clog my skin, is the simple range okay? I know the mixture can be used as a moisturiser but I need to put moisturiser on my face before I apply foundation, and the oil makes it all shiny.

Also anyone got a good foundation that's good for convering congested skin? I'm using benefit foundation right now, but I'm almost out and I can't seem to get my skin flawless like the woman in boots did....

You need to look for non-comedogenic make-up preferably that is dermatologically tested. I heard a recommendation from a make-up artist who worked on films and with models for Neutrogena or Clarins for "problem skin". Certainly claris do a foundation aimed at oily skin that is great for giving a matt finish even if you are normally shiny! Clarins beauty flash under your foundation is good for stopping shine and giving a good flawless finish too. You might want to consider mineral foundation though, this doesn't clog the skin and is powder so shouldn't slide off like foundation can. I find my mineral foundation stays on really well.

Have you tried coconut oil on your skin. I find it less greasy than other oils and doesn't clog my skin. I have dry skin that is prone to spots too so works well. Its cheap too. Regarding foundation - Clinique is the best I have tried for coverage.

Is benefit not mineral? I have a mineral concealer stick that is useless, because I can't tell what shade suits me, and the woman in Superdrug said it did, no it does not! It leaves me with white patches on my skin!

Is there a clinque stand in boots then? I'm okay with paying about £20 for a decent foundation.

How does the mineral foundation work? If it's powder? Do you just dust it on your face like a bronzer (I'm totally rubbish at makeup, can you tell?!)

I just know that I've got 3 partys in the next 2 weeks and I'm not going if my skin still looks red raw and gross, and the benefit foundation doesn't give enough coverage to hide the bumps and redness!

I wouldn't actually say my skin is oily, around the T zone it is but the rest is fine, and then you get to my chin and mouth area and it's dry and spotty.

The doctor has given me dianette but just started it a week ago, so not going to see any improvement yet, so makeup is the way to go for the timebeing, and the OCM :D

Definitely try some mineral make up. My skin is loads better for it. You need a decent brand like Bare Escentuals, as the Rimmel, L'Oreal etc will be full if talc which blocks your pores further. Its really hard to get your head round not wearing a mask of liquid foundation, but you really won't look back!

Also, if Dianette doesn't work for you, try Yasmin. My skin was the best its ever been on that, but sadly had to stop due to rapid weight gain!
  • I'd avoid clinique products, they can be very harsh and drying. If you are spending that kind of money and want a traditional foundation go for clarins, I have both and the clarins one gives better coverage, is more matte and lasts longer.

But I'd suggest trying a mineral foundation, it will be like a powder but you can just layer it up for more coverage. No7 have a minerals range now.

See I'm really rubbish with makeup, I'm terrified I'm going to be left looking orange in the face if I put too much on, or have a rim!

So layering up is just building a thicker layer?

I'll head into town next week and I'll check out the mineral ones, and get someone to apply it for me.

Funnily enough, the acne only started because I had the implanon implant, I had it taken out over a week ago and my skin has just totally erupted, the redness is less today, but I seem to have developed 2 more spots overnight, I'm going to resist and not pop them even though they are grossing me out, because I now have red marks from picking at the spots, which will eventually fade in time, I'm hoping.

I'll do the OCM tonight as I'll have time.

I remember the doctor gave me some cream stuff for my face, I think it was better than the freederm stuff, for some reason the gel stuff seems to strong but cream is okay? Either way I can't find it, so guess I'll need to get some more.

I've still not got a moisturiser but I used to get on okay with the simple light moisturiser before, before I got acne, would that be okay to use at night? I was thinking adding a few drops of extra virgin olive oil to the mix, and using that to put on my face overnight.

Well I took the jump and gave it a go :D.

I used 25% castor oil and 75% extra virgin olive oil. Massaged into my face for 5 mins (felt lovely), covered with hot muslins for a bit and then wiped off with the muslins.

My skin felt a bit tight afterwards so I used a blob of my normal moisturiser. My skin looked great! Really clean, and the pores around my t-zone looked much smaller and still do this morning.

This morning I gave my face a quick wipe over with some very diluted toner as it felt a bit greasy, another blob of moisturiser and used my normal eye cream.

I think my skin looks great today! Will def be trying again, maybe tomorrow night as I don't want to over do it.

If your skin is feeling tight, top the bottle up with the olive oil - its the castor oil thats drying

No need to steam BEFORE using the OCM. You use the muslin soaked in the hot water and wrung out to gently steam your face after.

I find the botanics moisturiser from Avon works well - doesn't clog. I find its as good as Liz Earles light (although not as nice to smell and its in a tub rather then a tube)

Clear the congestion and you wont need so much make up. The OCM isnt the best thing for Acne but it does wonders for keeping pores clear hence the reduction in the lumpy bumps. It will also balance your skin out - so if its oily now it will become more normal with use so for now concentrate on getting the skin looking its best before spending on foundations etc - you may find you need a whole re think around make up

You look orange if you choose the wrong shade. I notice here that the young girls like to go darker because they think they look tanned - they dont they look tangoed and in fact the 16yo I work with takes her foundation down and around her neck and leaves a big wide white strip ear to ear at the back of her head - looks so silly.

Theres a lot of mineral foundations out there on the high street. Do look at the indredients. If the main ingredient (the first on the list) is talc - you will find it will settle and cake in fine lines and may also block pores cause more spots

The best minerals are thos that dont rely on talc as a cheap filler

Ones reccomended time again on this forum are bare escentuals (sold in some department stores) lilly lolo and Elemental beauty - all sold online

Lilly lolo and EB both do samples very cheaply and EB samples will last weeks if not months

You build up coverage by going over the areas that need more - layering. You may also find you need concealer in some areas, or in my case I use the green corrector as I have such rosy cheeks. Minerals blend well together - they melt into one another so there is no demarcation lines. And because such tiny amounts are used you dont see any thickness.

You do need to moisturise before applying and let it sink in

If you are using the ocm then you really shouldn't need to use a night cream. However if you feel you do - go read the coconut oil thread - very informative
