No, the highstreet chemists have gone off for some reason  but it's easy to get online!

Do a Google for castor oil and you'll find plenty of chemists that deliver...

I'm on a rough mixture of 80% olive oil and 20% castor oil and I'm completely in love with my skin. For the first couple of weeks, I felt a bit like an orange because my pores opened right up... but ever since, my face is glowing smooth, soft and blemish-free. And I only do the cleanse once a week at most these days, with no need to use anything else :)

    Hi

I did pick up some from a Lloyds pharmacy. I was told that castor oil is a substance which is open to abuse! It seems that it is used by anorexics/bulimics as a laxative and to help fat to not be absorbed in the gut! Very odd as surely they can get hold of all kinds of laxative.

Anyway I nabbed the two bottles @1.38 a bottle for 100 mls. I am pretty sure this will last me ages. This particular chemist said she would be re-ordering anyway. Seems a bit expensive on ebay what with the postage etc. I bet with me this will be a flash in the pan anyway.

You're so full of s**t :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Surely if you take the stuff and it clears out fat in the system, or the system doesn't absorb it, - that is not a bad thing?

Years ago, mothers used give their children a spoonful a day  - but, not much obesity around then either, worth a thought........ (wasn't fast food chains around either).

Edit: terrible grammar in that last comment - I do aplogise.

I suppose though that anorexics/bulimics are over using it? I do find it strange though that they have fixated on this particular oil to be withdrawn, as surely if you are into abusing laxatives, there are many many others on the market that achieve the same thing. Could it be that castor oil is cheap comparatively and they make more money by selling branded laxatives?

You are probably right. And in this stupid over pc world (nothing to do with computers), we can't do this, can't buy that, can't eat this, can't go there - can't can't can't - I'm in my fifties, but the rebellious teenager is coming out!

I want to drink, smoke and drive something with a V8 engine. And now I want to take caster oil, orally! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

So am I Jeannieblue, in my fifties I mean. Yes I too am feeling rebellious! What I would like to ask you though is have you found this OCM to be effective on more ahem...mature skin? I have quite nice skin (so I am told) but I do have lots of pores around my nose area. My son when little said I had a strawberry nose!!:D

My skin is probably more on the dryish side, but I rarely have or have ever had spots.
So lucky as my sister was covered in acne, poor soul.

How has your skin fared since doing this method? Just wondering if I should leave well alone!

    Confession time.........

I've not tried it! I had really really bad skin a few months back and experimented with mineral make up etc. I found that Elemental Beauty suited me - and had no reactions to it. I also was fascinated by a 'substance' called Allantoin, its like a natural barrier, and I found a particular comfrey ointment that was very rich in it.

The combination of using both, my skin has been great. I've been back from hols just over a week - got a nice tan, and been just lightly applying mineral make up in 'cinnaman' from EB and its been great.

Sadly, back to work and stress etc. Had a couple of really really minor flare ups - plus a patch or two of ezcema, but nothing huge.

MrsE and Suki and some others are really good on this subject - but it does fascinate me, alot.

And thinking about it, also wondering about the benefits of taking a spoonful of caster oil a day - teaspoon size I think!! Old fashioned remedy which was considered a 'cure all' in the 'good old days'.

I'd personally like to learn more about the benefits of caster oil in general.

Bound to be someone somewhere who 'knows' !! :D

  • ok i'm reviving the discussion here.

hmmm sounds deliciously natural but again the words "oil" and "face" in the same sentence raises eyebrows.

i'm wondering if this method would be suitable for me. i don't have oily skin, nor am i particularly dry, just the odd bit of dryness around my nose. although since coming home from my summer hols i've been having a major breakout all over my face. previously i would just have had some spots on around my chin and the odd one on my forehead but now there are spots on my cheeks, temples etc... i was using bananaboat sun tan oil so i'm wondering is that what has caused it and hence am sceptical about applying any other kind of oil to my face.

do u think i should try this even tho i don't suffer from oily or dry skin?
what should i mix the castor oil with as i've seen mention of extra-virgin olive oil/olive oil/grapeseed oil/vitamin e oil etc...? and what ratio of oils would u suggest for my skin type?

thanks in advance for your advice

P.S. Suki, i'm from N. Ireland too. Where did u get yr castor oil?
