It doesn't have to be from fresh lemons the bottled stuff works as well, but it does make the apples taste more tart in my experience. Would it be worth stewing the apples & putting them in a little tub with a spoon so he can eat them that way. My 3 loved apple puree like this when they were little - still do in fact! You could also make a batch up & freeze in tubs ready to pop into his lunchbox. HTH.

My DD1 takes peeled and chopped apples to school in her packed lunch with lemon juice on (out of a bottle) and doesn't complain, so why don't you try it...do some earlier in the day and give it to her for a snack (obviously a few days before she goes school)

My DD has a fixed metal brace (the joy of being a teenager) and as such has difficulty when eating apples. When at home, I slice them up for her into segments, so it's much easier for her to eat. I'd like to do the same for her packed lunch, however apples turn brown once peeled or sliced.

Is there a way I can slice an apple and keep it fresh, a bit like they do in the grab bags in Asda / Tesco / MacDonalds?

    Thanks

Dip them in diluted lemon juice- the acid stops them from oxidising. Vinegar would also work but doesn't taste nice!

My daughter also has a fixed brace and she will cut up an apple at home but I buy her apple rings from Holland and Barratt for when she's on the go. I have heard that lemon juice will stop apple portions from going brown but I'm not sure how much to use. Sorry, maybe somebody else can be more helpful.

I cut mine into slices, remove the core, and remake the apple. I then seal tightly in cling-film and it stays fresh until lunch time :D

I'll add this to the existing thread so you can see more ideas.
