I remember reading somewhere that when apples go brown it's the acid oxidizing...this means that brown apples are actually sweeter and easier to digest. Does anyone know if this is true?

I'm wrapping them in foil at the moment, but she's decided she doesn't like them

  • My daughter wants to take an apple as her healthy snack for school which is fine, but she wants it cut up! Wont it go all brown if i cut it up and put it in a container? Is there anything i can do to stop it going brown?

Lemon juice stops apples going brown, but unless you put the pieces in a tub of water and a splash of lemon juice you will need to coat the whole of each piece in juice which would be time consuming and expensive .Vinegar works too but she probably won't like the taste of vinegary apples will she?

Not sure that's much help :o
  • Thanks for that, shes so fussy!

I don't like eating apples whole (they just don't taste the same!!) I used to use an apple slicing device which was like a segmented ring, it cut the apple into chunks and also cored it. I pushed the apple through the corer and then wrapped it tightly in clingfilm/foil so that is still looked "whole" and it kept until lunchtime without going brown. I hope that makes sense!
