There's a place on the internet that sells complete glasses for £5, if you just supply them with your prescription specifications. I ordered a pair about 6 months ago, and they're great! Feel quite silly for the hundreds I used to pay now. Just look for "£5 glasses" on a search engine.

I splashed out and bought the £8.00 ones and seem just as good as the ones I bought at Specsavers and lost within the month. Only need mine for reading but if you wear them all the time could buy a couple of pairs. Also bought DD £5.00 and they seem fine.

The £5 site doesn't do very high prescriptions by the look of it.

Asda opticians sell 2 for £90 or 2 for £50 depending on the frame. I got 1.9 high index lenses under this deal and had a compex lens voucher bringing total for 2 pairs of glasses to £76.30. They wanted £290 per lens in D&A and other opticians queried. Can't see any difference to the ones I paid £600 last time!! It really is a great deal!!

Ds is 10 and has just started wearing glasses. He is self conscious of them already and I am concerned that he is not wearing them all the time and is likely to lose them regularly.

OH and I have worn contact lenses for a long time so it's something we are used to but what about children? Various articles seem to say from 9-10 plus but was wondering if anyone had any personal experience?

    Thanks :)

My oldest started wearing contacts occasionally when she was 11. She was dancing 5 nights a week and was finding it harder and harder to dance with glasses! Specsavers sorted her out and spent ages making sure she could sucessfully put them in and out and that she showed no adverse reactions to them. I have to confess it looked awful to me, I have very sensitive eyes, I can barely put mascara on with out tearing up. DD was determined to get it down though as it would make all the difference to her dancing. We started off with daily disposables for dance nights and shows - she was always very responsible and we had no problems even though no one else in our household wears contacts.

I wondered if anyone else uses Toric Contact lenses (Johnsons?)? I had my last test and told the optician who and they said they were fine but they were still not right so I just never bothered wearing them anymore.

I went to Asda for a test last week and mentioned to the optician and he has ordered, what I found out today, some Toric lenses as they have a slight curve and will fit better but they cannot get me in for a fitting for another 2 weeks (frustrating!!).

Does anyone else use these and where do you get them from? Asda have said £35 a month which I doubt I will pay each month but I did want to go back to dailies to get used to them before we go on holiday. There are so many to choose from when I google Toric Lenses, do not want to get ripped off, does anyone else get these online?

    Thanks

I use a toric lense in my left eye - I have an astigmatism in that eye and the toric lense is apparently 'weighted' to fit to the shape of the eye better. I only use disposables for going out as contact lenses aren't suitable for me for work purposes but I find the toric ones absolutely fine and comfortable to wear and they do correct the vision in that eye a little better than the regular type that I used before (and that I still use for my right eye).

I get them from Boots so can't help with buying online, I'm afraid

I had toric lenses in my right eye, but the curved shape caused me problems in the summer as i get hayfever in that eye. I use fortnightly lenses, they are better than monthly cos they stay cleaner, and don't rip as easily, but i am fine without the toric.
