Thanks for your replies.
I have prescription goggles already but with going to water parks on holiday I did not want to have to wear them all the time. If I am going for a 'proper' swim on my own then wear then but because I can see nowt without them and I have the children to think about, keep my glasses at the side of the pool to change into. I did not want to be walking around in them or having to chop change because on things like The Lazy River you get on and off at different places and I cannot carry my specs with me all the time.
The eye infections was what I was worried about, I have worn them with goggles before but again, leaves me looking like a sap at waterparks having to wear goggles.
I've worn lenses for nights out and holidays but want to wear them all the time and get used them being in all day (usually have had enough after 12 hours) so I can og on rollercoasters without having to worry about losing them. I loved going on Air last year but was so worried my glasses would fall off I could not enjoy it as much as I should of.
I think I paid about £20 for my prescription goggles 10 years ago and, despite my prescription changing, they still do me fine for the gym and I can see. I have had them for at least 10 years (as I remember taking them on honeymoon to go swimming with dolphins) and they are still in prefect condition. Well worth the investment if you go to the gym.
Just googled and you can get these for £18: http://www.lensbase.co.uk/product.php?xProd=419&xRegion=UK&xCtry=&xRef=Froogle|UK&xReferURL=Froogle|UK0 -
I wear my dailies when I go swimming, and they're fine:j:j"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

sorry guys i just flit in here from time to time
i have astigmatism too in both eyes (which i got told by a HORRIBLE optician when i was younger is quite bad)
I do not wear toric lenses, just normal daily disposibles and have no noticable difference in price - another optician said many people with astigmatism find the only difference between the two is in the pocket! It might help to reduce costs to discuss this with an optician?
Sorry if this is not medically correct, this is just my situation and hope to help someone else?x

i too wear dailies if i am just lounging around the pool, but for going on water activites or to water parks i advise you not too - if only for the uncomfortableness (if such a word :rotfl: ) of getting hit in the face with water and your lense getting dislodged/folding in your eye/losing one!
if i know i am going to a water park i wear glasses til i get there, or if very self conscious on the day, one lens and plan to go on the 'scary' rides first that will result in water in my face - for the mosre sedate rides you can always put another lens in with a lower risk of losing it0 -
My optician says it's ok as long as you take them out immediately afterwards and throw them away, so use disposables only.0

I only ever go swimming when I'm on holiday, so maybe a total of 10 times per year but I have always worn my daily disposable lenses in the pool as I can't see much without them.
I think the first time I wore them I had quite sore eyes afterwards and had to change my lenses for a new pair and get some soothing eyedrops from the local chemist to use for a while, but on subsequent years I have been fine. I just try and make sure I don't get any water in my eyes (easier said that done!) - I don't dunk my head under anyway but you always get some splashes when there's other people in the pool.
I try and make sure I've got all my make-up off first before going in the pool as if my mascara runs in my eyes as well, I end up rubbing it and getting all sorts of rubbish in my eyes and that *does* hurt.
Just my personal experience - not sure what the recommended opticians advice is as I've never thought to ask - just assumed they would be OK.

I wear my contacts swimming but keep my head out of the water, im not a fan of water near my eyes even without lenses in.0

swim with disposables about 3 times a week and have never had a problem with losing them or getting an infection.
I do throw them away once i get out of the pool though (and it is only about 90 minutes of wear tops).
On holiday i swim in my prescription sunglasses0 -
Does anyone know if you can wear contacts if you have a squint?0

Has anyone used feelgoodcontacts.com? they seem cheap... but are they too good to be true?Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0
