Nearly payday. Woohoo!:j I've had a pretty good couple of days. I took the car to work yesterday but still have a bit of petrol left. Cycled today so NPD!

I've brought lunch to work every day this week. I did end up in Tesco last night but only bought the fruit juice I went in for. I'm being strict and only allowing myself to spend the few pounds I had in my purse and it's really working. My next challenge is not to buy any food until I go on holiday a week on Friday. I have the ingredients to make some bread so it should be doable. I need to get back on track as I haven't made any mortgage overpayments this month because of paying for my holiday.

The good news is I found £20 in my bike bag this morning!:j Must spend it wisely.
  • I'm going to try and put up some entries up on here even though me and OH are nowhere near being mortgage free at the moment! It might make me feel like I'm making faster progress though.

    Today I have:
    - managed a NSD (did go out for a work meeting in cafe but someone else paid - so my turn next time, but good for today!)
    - listed a whole bunch of old DVDs on Amazon - will get rid of some of the clutter as well if they sell...

  • Hope you enjoyed your holidays SMF2.

Today sent off £200 regular OP - this is the July one and will then do the August one after payday, so there will be two this month.

I think this weekend I might try and start counting up DH's 'bag o money' - loads of coppers he's been collecting for years, must be at least £10 or something in there.

Just back from our holiday too, hope you had a good time SMF2. I have checked our accounts and everything is in order, we even have some spending money left so that will go towards the car insurance due at the end of the month. Whilst on holiday we saved all our £2 coins as we do throughout the year so will count them up this week and pop into the bank to make an additional mortgage overpayment.

Today i have done daily clicks at quidco, and starting trying to find cheaper house insurance! Also monitored my spreadsheet on the mortgage and upped my overpayment from £23.31 a month to £38.31 a month and knocked a few months off the end date. (will overpay more when i can, but currently on unpaid mat leave!)

But yesterday was better...i did daily clicks on quidco, and then did my car insurance (via martins method)...
renewal quote=£340, via screen scrapers got it down to £248 on esure. Then i went via quidco (who lucky for me had just increased esure pay outs from 45 to 75!) and claimed £75 cashback (due in nov) and paid for it on my tesco c/card=124points=£1=£4 in deals!!!!! I promise to transfer the £75 to my mortgage when in arrives in november.

    yipee!
Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞

Well, my plan not to buy any more food before my holiday has nearly worked. I've spent less than £5 and my fridge and freezer are looking much emptier. It's made me wonder whether I should experiment with only using cash when I get back. At the moment I stick everything on my cashback credit cards but I think just being able to spend the cash in my purse would make me more disciplined and more than offset the loss of the cashback. Has anyone tried this?

I had to buy a few bits for my holiday but used a Boots gift voucher I had and got double points on the rest. I usually see a holiday as an excuse to buy loads of new stuff but have really resisted the temptation this time. I had to buy a new backpack which was quite expensive (but bought on Amex and through topcashback!) but have decided to take the money out of my bike savings account so I can keep my mortgage overpayments and kitchen savings on track.

Keep up the good work everyone!
