You will need to be carefull to ensure any policy for missed departure for flights that start and end in the UK. Are you based on the mainland?
Volunteer work is not normally classed as business travel especially if its non manual, it would be best to check with the Insurer though0 -
Thanks dacouch. I'm not on the mainland, I live in the Hebrides, so fly with 1 airline onto the mainland and the usually have to change carrier to continue my journey. Thanks for the tips.0

I thought you might not be mainland!
I dealt with a similar case (My client was based in Jersey), most companies do not cover missed departure from internal flights and / or connecting flights. My client had been abroad and then missed her flight from the mainland to Jersey. The company I found (After a fair amount of investigation) was Fortis.
Here is the relevant wording from the Policy they do through brokers.
http://www.fortisinsurance.co.uk/images/pdf/533.pdf
What is covered
If one of the following takes place during
the period of insurance, you will be covered
for the cost of reasonable extra
accommodation and travel expenses to
allow you to carry on with your trip:
1 Labour dispute or protest, civil
disturbance, mechanical breakdown or
bad weather which interrupts your
scheduled public transport services,
including booked connecting flights.
2 An accident or breakdown involving
the car in which you are travelling in
the British Isles and which causes you
to arrive at the airport, port or station
you are leaving from too late to start
the journey you have booked.
Conditions
As well as the general conditions on pages
34 and 35, the following conditions apply.
1 You must do all that you can to arrive
at the airport, port or station you are
leaving from on time.
2 In the case of a labour dispute or
protest, you will only be covered if the
dispute is announced and begins
during the period of insurance.
3 If you miss the departure because your
car breaks down or you are involved in
an accident, you must send us a
repairer's report or police accident
report.
Notice they include "Bad Weather" interrupting your "Scheduled" public services which is probably quote handy for the Hebrides as this should include a ferry to the mainland.
Their cancellation cover (See page 14) is for "Events beyond your control" (Subject to some exclusions) eg they do not give a list of perils they cover. Most companies specify under what circumstances they will cover cancellations. This wording could come in handy for being in the Hebrides
You can buy a Fortis policy through the Post Office but the wording is not as wide.
Personally I would recommend you speak to a broker in the Hebrides or Scottish Island as they will be familiar with the potential problems with travelling from the Hebrides and will know of Insurers with a suitable policy (They can also point out any exclusions that you would need to know living on an island). It will also keep the money in your local community.0 -
That's excellent dacouch, thank you loads.0

I assume you travel abroad as well so its worth ensuring any policy you take out is suitable for the Hebrides as otherwise you could end up with a large bill as my Jersey client did0

Anyone know of a company/policy that includes cover for Tesco Clubcard deals ie I have paid part cash, part deals tokens - and I am looking for a policy that would cover the cash and the value of the deals tokens.
I think I read on here that the Tesco policy does but couldn't see it on their site.0 -
The tesco policy is the only one that does i believe, 100%. There has also been talk of travelinsuranceweb covering deals..... but personally im not convinced
Tesco's policy is a bit over-priced, but at least you know the deals element are def covered in the event of cancellation0 -
Where abouts do Tescos mention they cover cancellation costs for Clubcard vouchers as the policy wording or anything on their website (As far as I can see)0
-
Not sure about T&C - not seen them. But tells you on the blurb that come with your converted deals & also on the deals page
http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=154&bci=4294967232|Holidays
Check whether your holiday insurance covers the loss of the value of your Clubcard vouchers should you have to cancel, as most policies don’t cover this. Tesco Travel Insurance does offer a policy which covers the loss of Clubcard vouchers under an insured event. For details, phone - 0845 300 88 00*** (Typetalk 18001 0845 300 88 00). Please see Clubcard rewards terms and conditions for more information.0 -
I`ve just had the results from my blood test and don`t have an under active thyroid everything is normal, does this mean that I don`t have to mention anything to the insurance company?0
