  • I am going for a month long trip next Jan with my husband. He is 74 abd I am 61. I cannot find any suitable travel insurance. I just can't find a high enough cancellation cover. Everything seems limited to £5000. We would loose much more than that. Please can anyone suggest anything?

The £5000 is per person so unless it it a very expensive trip it should cover you.
  • Reading the travel insurance dos and don'ts, I have discovered that as an independant traveller - ie booking accomodation and flights seperately- the majority of the insurance quotes I get on the price comparison sites won't cover us as they are designed for people buying complete packages !!
Money saving expert is in the process of investigating companies who do offer travel insurance for independant travellers but hasn't published anything yet - quotes I've got so far with axa, m&s are £35 - £45 for one week :eek:- does anyone have any other recommendations ?

You could try the Post Office which is underwritten by Fortis, or a local broker who normally offer a Fortis Policy

Its not a bad price and Fortis are a good Insurer as you will see from this thread and that they often win Travel Insurance awards.

Do they give you the option to delete cancellation cover? As you are flying in 8 days time it might be worth considering otherwise on some of the other Fortis Travel products they give you a small discount (Circa 10%) if you take cover out within 7 days of the flight as obviously the risk of you cancelling is greatly reduced. You could check whether they offer this by running a quote through with the leaving date as within the next 7 days. If they do it might be worth waiting until tommorow before you arrange cover.

Anyone thinking of applying for a Cap One Card just for the free Travel Assistance and Insurance, don't bother as they are withdrawing it from Nov this year.

I had already decided not to use it anyway because the terms & conds were too vague but it may have suited some I suppose

Just thought I'd let you all know.

    Cheers

I have used TPS insurance admin service limited for years now :-
    http://www.ukul.com/structure_TPS.html

For cover which includes Europe & Peronal Property & Money Cover last year was £52.64 for multi trip per year.

Renewal this year will be £59.54 this year. It's for two people - would you say this is a good price or is it worth looking around?

Post office quoted £72 for same Europe cover, however on moneysupermarket.com the quotes are coming up under £30 from TopDog or Flexicover direct..

Am I paying to much? I've been with TPS for several years now..

Until my Alliance & Leicester policy renewed I had worldwide cover so was covered. Now, however, I'm only getting European cover :(

Can someone advise who is going to be best for the following:

2 weeks in Orlando, 2 weeks in the Caribbean (small island no good medical facilities so air ambulance required) and then a 2 days in Puerto Rico - total time 31 days for 2 people. This is going to be the only trip that I'm going to need cover for. Medically I had an op earlier this year on my knee (day surgery) and physio should end this week. Flights are early December so I've got a while :)

    TIA
