Hi, I'd appreciate it if anyone could please point me in the direction of insurers who offer policies for independent travellers. I am planning a few trips to Europe this year and would like to ensure I get an appropriate policy that covers indirect losses as I wont be using a travel agent to book the trips. I tried Googling Independent travellers insurance but without much luck and would like to compare a few companies so I'd appreciate some help in narrowing the search field.
Thanks in advance.0 -

Hi fellow MSE's
We are travelling as a family soon and am looking at an annual worldwide policy including USA and Canada. My previous 2/3 policies have been with Insure & Go but I feel they are too pricy. Looking at the Which? website here is what they recommend.
1. Atlas Direct
2. Insure With Ease
3. Travel Insurance Web (Also on Quidco @ 20%!)
4. 365 Travel
Would like to know who has used any of the companies above and how they would rate them?
Thanks0 -
Hi guys, travelling to NZ next year and going via Los Angeles in both directions. We're not stopping over but are transiting, so we don't leave the airport (just a crew change and refuel etc), so just wondering if I need to get travel insurance that includes the USA?
Heaven forbid someone get injured or take ill whilst in the airport, and we only have TI that excludes the USA - it could happen!
Is there a convention for transit passengers or something where the insurers will cough up if you buy insurance for your actual destination?

That's a difficult one. I think I would call the insurance and ask the question specific to your policy to make absolutely sure.0

I know some 'companies' mention this specifically in the wording....as long as you dont leave the airport and your stopover is less than 24/48 hrs you dont need to have US cover

Some Insurers will actually cover stop overs where you leave the airport for up to 24 hours, as other posters have mentioned you need to check the wording of the Insurers you are looking at0

Thanks for the responses guys, I will check over policy wordings carefully!0

Direct Travel Insurance offer one way trip cover, they will insure you for the journey and up to 17 days after you arrive in your final destination.0

I'm trying to identify suitable cover for UK only travel, I obviously don't need medical within that, but I do need missed departure cover as I travel with varying airlines. Would I be better off just taking the individual insurance when I book a ticket, or investing in flexible fares? Also, I travel as a volunteer for a charity, does that count as business travel?0
