Is your son in full time education and whats his age?
Sorry it's taken so long to get back but my computer is kaput at home and am reliant on work and borrowing my son's when possible. Use of either for this purpose is rarer than hen's teeth.
My son is 18, awaiting A Level results, and hopes to be starting University in September.
Roll on Tuesday when new computer will, hopefully, arrive.:D0 -
In that case there are a few Insurers who will still regard your son as being a "Child" if he is in full time education and under 23 so will allow him to be on a family policy which should keep the costs down.
I would recommend PJ Hayman http://www.pjhayman.com/ as they rate him as being a child and will cover him to travel independantly from his parents so will cover him if he goes away with his friends etc (A lot of Insurers only cover "Children" if they travel with their parents)
You need the Travel Plus policy from Haymans, if you struggle with their website just give them a ring and they will arrange it over the phone.
There are other companies so if any other MSE members (I think Quentin knows a company) please feel free to post the Insurers details0 -
Thanks dacouch - I'll be on the case as soon as new computer arrives and I set it all up. That'll be the weekend then:rotfl:0

Hi, i'm a total newbee to posting so appologies for any mistakes.
Does anyone know if there is any policies for USA that pay out immediately and not one you have to claim money back on. Im new to all this! Ive never flown anywhere before but am off to see family and don't have the money to pay out if something happens and claim back later. Would be very greatful for any help!0 -
Moneysupermarket.com is great but it won't accept that a family for annual travel insurance might include an 18 year old. I don't want to get a separate one for that child. There are some sites that will accept another child up to 19 instead of 18 as part of the family - Essentialtravel.co.uk and multitrip.com for those of you in the same situation.0

If your refering to medical expenses then for major medical emergencies the hospital will normally contact the Insurer and clear the treatment and cost with them. The funds are then generally wired to the Hospital or paid directly to them at a later date.
If you read Fhbrits posts you will see that some companies do not pay promptly which means the hospital will chase you, the companies to avoid are Axa and White Horse. You can find if the policy you are looking at is underwritten by them by looking at the first oor last few pages of the policy wording0 -
Hi All,
I'm looking for backpacking travel insurance to cover me and my partner for 3 weeks in India. It needs to cover us, should we get swine flu prior to leaving and also cover knock-on cancellations - like missed flights if the connecting flight is delayed ( monsoon season!)
I've found a company called Infinity but never heard of them before. Does anyone have any advice?
Cheers,
Laura0 -
I just discovered yesterday that my "5 Star" annual insurance provided by Lloyds Bank as a part of the benefits of my account does NOT cover the accommodation part of independent travel. I only discovered this after insisting they send me a policy document, because I have previously had just a leaflet and been told "just use your bank details in place of a policy number". I'm going to buy some decent insurance before I go on holiday. The Lloyds Bank insurance is underwritten by Axa0

Hi all,
looking online for an annual policy that covers longer than 30 days trips as well. I'll be doing a trip to NZ/Aus later in the year which might be about 6 weeks or so. Most policies look like they cover up to 30 days at a time only. Though Flexicover does a '100-day trip' add-on.
Any others anyone knows of?
Thanks!0 -
Google "Annual Travel Insurance + 90 Days" and "Annual Travel Insurance 45 days" etc etc0
