    It is normally per person.

If your spending that sort of money on a trip it would be worth checking what the cancellation will cover you for as it varies a lot from company to company. For instance a few companies will cover you for financial failure of the airline or hotel (Going Bankrupt), some will cover for cancelling due to swine flu etc etc

No, the cancellation charges won't be anywhere near that. It was just something I wanted to know. I understand it is per person.

hansi - the ONLY way you'll know for certain is to read your policy - no one on here can be precise on a subject like that as each policy differs from the next. Although there is tons of great info here I am sure the regulars (DA, Pedro, Luci etc) will agree with me here.

No matter what we say here, ultimately it is what is written (and therefore legally binding) in your T&C's as anyones advice is general info.

My annual travel insurance policy is up for renewal.

I've been told that as of some time next year the reciprocal agreement for healthcare that the English govt has with the Isle of Man will be cancelled (same as for the Channel Islands this April) so it would be wise to get a policy that includes medical insurance for when I go over to visit family who all live on the Isle of Man.

I've been looking round but all the policies I've seen so far will only cover for holidays in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man if they last a mimimum of 2 nights and include pre-booked accommodation.

If I go to visit my parents it's often just for one night and (unless they start charging rent!) at their house rather than a hotel which therefore means I wouldn't be covered.

Could anybody suggest a company that will give me European / World annual cover but which doesn't have these exclusions for travel within the British Isles?

Unfortunately most policies I've seen have the 2 nights minimum stay for the UK.

I just found out that all (i think) Travel Insurance compaines do NOT cover Scheduled Airline Failures, if you book an ALL INCLUSIVE HOLIDAY from an ATOL provider as its the company you booked with responsibilty, is this correct?

So the only thing I can see needing travel insurance for would be Medical Reason, and if thats the case is it cheaper to get a medical worldwide policy instead?

Thanks in advance to any reply on this.

There are plenty of other things a travel policy covers eg baggage, legal expenses, personal liability, cancellation or curtailment of the holiday, documents and repatriation following a medical claim, this can include the cost of an air ambulance.

Some Insurers do include cover for the financial failure or the travel or accomadation provider.

Try getting a quote for worldwide medical insurance and see how much more expensive it is than a travel insurance policy.

My daughter (age 19) is spending a month - I think 28 days to be exact - in Scandinavia and the Baltics this summer. She travels by ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg and spends most of the time in Sweden and Finland - no planes, all trains and ferries.
On checking the moneysupermarket.com website for quotes, we were shocked to discover that several of their policies (including best buys) do not cover Finland and/or Sweden under their Europe policies. Surely this is misleading when it is toted specifically as a Europe travel policy?
As she is coming to Jersey with us for a few days earlier in the summer, she will probably be better off getting an annual policy (as long as it covers Jersey, Sweden and Finland!) and then DH, DS (aged 16) and I can get our own family policy for the Jersey trip. We shall also be travelling with my mother, who is 78, but I think she will have to get her own insurance. DH and DS both have asthma but no doc/hospital trips for years. I have other stable conditions and my mother has too.
    Any suggestions for our circumstances?

I'm looking around at annual travel insurance. I've never heard
of some of the companies that advertise.

How do I know that they are legit and what happens if a company goes bust? Am I still covered by ANother?
