The Direct Traval annual policy cover Scheduled Airline Failure for an additional £2.50 premium. Not sure about terrorism, can't remember.
Flexicover cover terrorism but only under the medical/repatriation and personal accident sections of the policy!
They also have recently added schedule airline failure cover to their policies!0 -

royzer you either work for flexicover or you are the most informed customer who wants to sing their praises as all of your posts are praising flexicover.
Please note that if you work for Flexicover then you are spamming MSE which is against the rules and ethos of MSE. If you are a genuine happy customer then please accept my apologies but if not take your spam elsewhere0 -
we go on holiday 4 times a year but only in england. I am looking for a basic policy that will cover me for the cost of losing my deposits if i have to cancel my holidays due to illness or dogs being ill etc. I have paid out £600 in deposits for this year and just need a basic policy to cover me if I can't go for any reason.
All the ins policies I have seen are really for travelling abroad, illness, flight cancellations etc etc.
can anyone point me in the right direction please. thanks
Polly - call a broker ( a decent one) as IC's make most of their policies for int'l travel it probably includes travel in the UK but they are not going to invest time and effort in their website to cater to the few people that want only UK cover. Also may be worth having a word with your homeowners insurers to see what you are covered for. Any decent broker will be able to see what's best for you and get quotes for UK travel only.
Only thing is - how cheap is travel insurance - note not many policies are called International Travel Policies! so check T&C's on any policy to see if UK travel covered.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Hi, Can you help!
We have an annual travel insurance policy which I took out and paid for on 1st May. But policy start date is 20th May. we are due to go on hols to italy on 23rd May for one week. The policy is with Direct Travel.
My husband is now ill, a problem which started on 6th May and we will not be able to travel.
Are we covered as the policy does not start until 20th May and he was first ill on 6th May???? I thought that you would be covered as soon as policy is bought but reading the small print it looks unlikely!! help!!
This is the first time I have used a forum so hope it is o.k.(sorry if this is in the wrong place etc).
Thanks ever so Eileen X0 -

Hi.
Oh dear, you will not be entitled to submit a claim.
As you took an annual policy, the start date of your policy will be the date that your cancellation cover commences, 20th May.
As you booked the policy recently, and it has been less than 14 days since you received your documents, provided you have no claims known or pending against the policy, you can call the offices and claim a full premium refund for the policy.
I'm afraid a refund of the travel policy is the only money you will be able to get back.
I work for DTI by the way!0 -
eileenh how did you buy the policy eg on the internet or did you call them?
If you called them were they aware of the date you were travelling and if so did they guide you on what date to start the cover?0 -

If she bought it over the phone - I would be very surprised if she was not informed of the implications, DTI are very hot on training and the system generates a reminder. Over the web - it's all in the policy wording as poor Eileen has read. I guess by the fact that she is saying that her husband is unfit to travel they have been to doctors and it will be on medical records, therefore a claim would not be successful.0 -
I ask as I was reading the Ombudsmans rulings on Travel Insurance and he ruled in favour of a similar case but it was because the operator at the Travel Insurer had been aware of the dates of travel and directed the customer to take cover on the date of departure.
I'm sure DTI are hot on travel but mistakes do occassionaly happen so its worth enquiring, if they have explained it to the customer and the customer has chosen to take cover from the depature date then its the customers fault.0 -
Excuse me for being a bit dim:rolleyes: but when travel insurance is taken out for a couple, and the cancellation cover is, say, £3000, is that per person or per policy. For instance, if one booked a holiday and the cancellation charges were £4000, (highly unlikely), and one only had cover for £3000 s above, would one be covered by this policy?0

I believe the cover is per person.0
