  • Hello...my mum ..81 in February... is planning a trip to Australia for my cousin's wedding in April. The problem is that the travel insurance is going to cost almost as much as her flight!!!! Has anyone got any suggestions as to a company that will insure the over 80's for a reasonable price...She also wants to stay for longer than 31 days which seems to be the standard trip allowed for this age group.Mind you...she is fitter than me !!!! Thanks

My Lloyds platinum current account card covers me and my partner for 45 days and i am going to india for 70 days. I haven't checked yet but i'm guessing that i'll be stung for the increase. Could i just insure with another company for the last 25 days.

Your Lloyds Pltinum account will not insure part of a trip. In the policy wording you will find the wording "all trips must start and end in the UK". Check with Lloyds Travel what trip lenght you already have on your policy and you may find the trip length extension is not that expensive...UNLESS ...you have what they deem to be "pre-exsisting medical conditions" in which case you will need to go through a rescreening to cover the upgrade of cover.

If you do call, avoid Monday and Saturday mornings and early evening as that is when they are the busest and less chance of being stuck listening to music!

    regards

I have a travel insurance question.

As far as I can tell under 18s cannot get travel insurance in their own right.

So if you have a 16 year old travelling with their aunt, aunt who already has her own travel insurance how do you get cover for the 16 year old? Can she travel on a family policy even if no-one else covered by the policy is travelling?

    Thanks!

    Hello

it is illegal to enter into a contract with someone under the age of 18. the policy must be taken out by the parent/guardian of the "child". However there are one or two insurers who do allow it, they do not tend to be regulated by the FSA though.

Take out a single trip policy for you 16 year old and check the wording and ask questions with the insurer first though. I know of some insurers who will allow this however, some will have conditions for example " must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times".

Also if you have an annual family policy already covering your 16 year old, check to see if they can travel independently however may have the same terms as above.

    regards

Have you spoke to A&L - am sure she could be bolted on to your policy for a additional premium. Alternatively, if this is too expensive a single trip policy for you both may be your best bet

    Hi!

I am taking out Annual Insurance for my Family with Karma because it covers SAFI. I am not travelling till 5th September so do I take it out from that date or do I take it out from now as it is all booked? I am taking annual because we are travelling again in November.

    Thanks

You should take it out as soon as the trip is booked to ensure you are covered for cancellation.

If, for example, you were diagnosed with a serious illness between booking the trip and taking out the insurance which meant you had to cancel, you wouldn't be covered and would most probably lose all the money you had paid.
  • Hi there all - this is my first post so I apologise if I do it wrong?!

I REALLY need some help and advice.

I need to insure myself for a trip to the USA lasting 64 days. I am female and under 30.

All the basics that Martin mentions in his Travel Insurance section I want to have - medical cover, baggage, cancellation etc. I do not need winter sports or anything hazardous. I thought I found a great deal doing it by Annual Trip but when I looked into it the Annual Trip cover will only cover me for 31 days per holiday and the Single Trip is minimum £98 which is way too much for me sadly.

I am due to fly out in less than 2 weeks and really want to get this sorted asap.

Any and all help would be TRULY appreciated.

    Many thanks:rotfl:

Hi - advice needed on travel insurance. I am going on a 2 week hol starting 3 March. I then plan to go travelling, probably in April. Planning on around 2-3 months in Europe, then 2-3 months in Canada/Usa, 2-3 months in NZ/Aus.
What I need to know is, what insurance to get?
Annual cover seems to cover trips of max 60 days, which I will probably exceed.
Is there any way I can get annual cover for such a trip?
Or is single cover for each trip a better option?
Thanks in advance for any help.
