I've just signed up for 1899 today, as has been said still at the moment cheaper than 18866.

Someone is now going to tell me I shouldn't have done it because xxx is now cheaper! ;)

Also if you have to call 0845/0870 numbers, 18185 offer better peak rates.

18185 charge 3p/minute peak for 0845 calls - the same as BT.

However, their per minute peak 0870 price (4p/minute) is the cheapest available.

A word of caution. If you accidentally mis-dial 18866 or 18899 and actually dial 118866 or 118899 then you get connected to extremely expensive (£1.25 or £1.75 per call) directory enquiry numbers. I can't help thinking these numbers were chosen exactly for this reason.
I only found this out when I found one of these on my BT bill - what was even more strange is I have a preset on my phone to dial 18866 so wouldn't have dialled 118866 anyway, the call only lasted 1 second - it would have taken me more than that to work out I'd dialled the wrong number. I can only assume there was some sort of glitch somewhere?
I ended up complaining to BT, and because they initially ignored my complaint and I had to chase them up they ended up refunding me the cost.

However, is there a similar catch with 18185? If not, I think I'll move to this to prevent this happening again - combined with cheaper mobile and 0870 calls.

Yes this has been mentioned before and warnings have been issued on this site.
I can see why people might dial extra didgit on 18866 but not two extra didgits on 1899.

    118185 is not so expensive.

As there don't appear to be any DQ providers using 11899x numbers (http://118x.be/), call1899.co.uk is probably the safest prefix company to use (and, at 3p connection, it's curently the cheapest for UK 01/02 calls).

Thanks, I've been on 18866 a while, and think when I first saw 1899 I must have misread it or expected it to be 18899. I agree, it should be fairly safe, think I'll change to them.

Anyone had success doing this and if so can you let me know the method used.

My father's 'debit' card is expiring at the end of the month and 18185 sent an email for him to update....complete with dead link!

So you visit the homepage and log in, the email instructs you to go to Personal details and 'simply' follow the instructions to enter new card details.

Easy isn't it, well not when under Personal details there is only options to change your name, address, email etc, nothing in relation to debit card details.

So you can try the option that says 'change' payment details but there doesn't seem to be an option for debit card...

    Any suggestions welcome, thanks

When you've logged in, you click on Your personal details and, when the page changes, on Your payment details (second option down).

That's what I did a few months ago and the 'route' still looks the same (I don't think they differentiate between Credit and Debit cards).
