However we will still use 18185 for calling mobiles - now 6p a minute weekdays!
OTOH, that 6p includes calls to '3' mobiles - for which other providers charge considerably more!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I have just checked my bill and found that 1899 have upped their connection charge to 4p. I have not had any e-mail notification about this although I see that some other forum members have.

As it happens I have signed up for Skytalk at £5 a month for unlimited Geo calls and the service goes live in 2 days time. :rotfl: We easily make over 125 Geo calls a month so it will work out cheaper than using 1899 or 18185. However we will still use 18185 for calling mobiles - now 6p a minute weekdays!

Mobile call on Sky from 5.5p,and second billing

Mobile call on 18185 from 10p peak and evenings, and minute billing.
  • Help!Having bought my Orchid Dialler and changed my phone to B.T.Option one as per.this site's advice,I then set up a direct debit with 18185,and was told that my registration had been successful. However, when I then tried to use the service, all I could get was a recorded message telling me that I wasn't registered, and to register myself.I kept trying over several days, and still got the same recorded message-my bank also advised me to cancel my direct debit(which I checked had been set up). They also gave me a contact phone number for the company,so I phoned to try and explain my problems and about why I had cancelled my direct debit.I don't mean any disrespect to anyone there, but they couldn't understand me too well, and I couldn't understand them either!I subsequently e-mailed them, explaining my problems, and decided to try to set up another direct debit,(which subsequently failed)and I received an e-mail to say that the reason it had failed was because I must owe some other telephone company money(are you still with me,or have you fallen asleep?!),when, infact I don't owe any money to anyone!!I sent them more e-mails,tried to set up a different payment method(which they advised in their e-mail to me-this also failed-AAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!- and again I received another e-mail advising me that I owed money to some other phone company(as before) and therefore, couldn't use the service until my non-existent debt had been paid off! Before I lose it completely, can someone advise me on my next move-there's a lonely Orchid Dialler just sitting there waiting to be used!I await your learned answers with bated breath!!!

It depends on how many calls you make, when you make them and whether you have the time and are prepared to spend a little time considering/investigating options before each call.

If the latter, use the MSE UK Callchecker before each call.

If you're like the rest of use and want to strike a reasonable 'ease of use' compromise, a combination of a BT landline, Primus Saver Option 2 CPS and 18185 might suit.

    Hi there.

This problem has been discussed before in this thread although I think the possibility of having an unpaid bill elsewhere is . I found the solution was to:

    1. delete any cookies you find on your PC from 18185;
    2. register again and include a mobile number as well as your home telephone number (you can always remove the mobile number after you get sucessfully registered)

    worked for me
 Interest should be a FOUR letter word.
  • ...will give it a try-thanks!What does occur to me is that last year,I got a contract "3" mobile phone from "Phones for You",(which I kept for all of two days in August, after deciding for various reasons that it wasn't for me) and returned it within their given 14-day period-I then had no end of aggravating, ridiculous hassle for several months before I stopped getting hassled for money, and my contract was(eventually)paid off by "Phones for You". I was reassured that there wouldn't be any further problems,so you may have hit the nail on the head there-I'll get a credit report done and see if that IS the problem-I would not be surprised atall given how inept they were(don't get me started on "3" or "Phones for You" whatever you do!).

Thanks heinz, I think was being lazy :) - I am basically have BT option one, and I use 1899 for all calls. 90% of calls are local and in the evening and weekend, although a few throught the day. Mobile usage is minimum!

So does 18185 - take the place of my 1899 now?

Basically yes, although as I still have a couple of numbers pre-programmed into my phone with the prefix of 1899 I use both but make sure thats its 18185 for mobile calls.
