Anyone had success doing this and if so can you let me know the method used.

My father's 'debit' card is expiring at the end of the month and 18185 sent an email for him to update....complete with dead link!

So you visit the homepage and log in, the email instructs you to go to Personal details and 'simply' follow the instructions to enter new card details.

Easy isn't it, well not when under Personal details there is only options to change your name, address, email etc, nothing in relation to debit card details.

So you can try the option that says 'change' payment details but there doesn't seem to be an option for debit card...

    Any suggestions welcome, thanks

I've had awful problems too - there is insufficient room to fill in my name in the direct debit on line form and despite 2 e mail requests have had no help from 18185, think I'll give up on them unless someone has any bright ideas?!!
  • I have signed up with 1899 (twice) and successfully registred. Still no confirmation e-mail and the service dosen't work for me yet. Anybody got any bright ideas???

That sort of this is sometimes a problem with the e-mail address new subscribers supply - with replies being blocked (IIRC, AOL was particularly problenatical).

    One of their FAQs reads:
I have registered, but haven't received an email confirmation with my customer number.
Should you not receive our subscription email due to spam filters for example your registration may still have been successful. Please try an hour after registration if you can make calls using 1899. Once you are able to make calls you can find out your customer number by calling 0808 170 1899.
However, it is known that they have computer problems at the moment (see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=285306) so it may be that your registration is somehow 'hung' at the moment.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi sorry for cross-posting, I just put this on the forum relating to Martin's 'Cheapest Home Phone Provider' article, then realised this was probably best place for it.

Anyways, I've just been advised by Call1899 that their connection fee is increasing to 4p per call from 23 October. So there doesn't seem much point in continuing to use it as 18185 is the same or cheaper all round (until they put that up of course!)

    Cheers

After reading through some of the earliest posting to this thread I thought I would try and register including a mobile number as well as my landline. Guess what.....registered successfully, received confirmation e-mail and started using the service all within 10 minutes.:j

By the way Heinz, many thanks for the useful information you have posted here especially your Orchid Dialler set-up table which I have implemented with only one addition - BAR 118 - to prevent use of the exhorbitantly overcharged directory enquiries services. Other userr may not be aware that you can get directory enquiries FREE from https://www.bt.com

    Cheers everbody

It used to have a digit translation option for calls starting 118*** (to an 0800 number) but that's now ceased so I simply deleted it.

I may add a line to digit translate 118*** to 118226 (the current cheapest - 23.5p for a single enquiry) but I haven't decided yet.

That's all I've done (including translate 192 as well) although we don't actually use 118 DQ as its free on the net. It's there just in case!
  • I have just checked my bill and found that 1899 have upped their connection charge to 4p. I have not had any e-mail notification about this although I see that some other forum members have.

As it happens I have signed up for Skytalk at £5 a month for unlimited Geo calls and the service goes live in 2 days time. :rotfl: We easily make over 125 Geo calls a month so it will work out cheaper than using 1899 or 18185. However we will still use 18185 for calling mobiles - now 6p a minute weekdays!
