At the weekend I just wondered how much it would cost to ring a mobile phone in Portugal and dialled 08081 703 703 and followed the instructions and it came back at 1p per minute.
I thought 'That's surely not right', didn't proceed with the call and went onto the 18185 website and saw that a landline to mobile call in Portugal should be 12p per minute with a connection charge.
Calling a Portugese mobile costs 7p/minute via 18185's 08081703701 gateway number. Bizarrely, 12p/minute is the price using the 18185 prefix from a BT line.

Do you mean you're calling a UK mobile which happens to be in Portugal or do you mean you're calling a Portugese mobile?

I really want to ring this mobile but am a bit scared as to how much I will get charged...
If you log in to the 18185 website you can see the total cost of individual calls on your account very soon after they have been made.

Hi, I've only just found out about 18185 as I'm trying to save on international calls, but I have a few questions...

    Would you recommend 18185?
Does 18185 appear on your BT bill?
I take it BT don't charge for calling this number?

    Thanks in advance!

Your use of 18185 (apart from your planned international calls) will depend on who your line rental is with and what call plan you're on (if you click on the HERE link in my signature, you'll see what I mean).

I just wondered, if you sign up for 185185 can you just use it for daytime calls and then carry on getting the free evening and weekend calls via BT?

    Yes.

Or (as I do) 18185 for daytime, Primus for evening (6pm to 8am) and BT for weekend (to 'qualify' for free Caller Display).

Sounds a good idea then, would just have to remember to put their number in front, I bet that takes a bit of getting used to:D

Have you had any problems with them re billing? Do they bill monthly or quarterly? Also, how do you pay them?

    Thanks,

After the first bill (after about a month), they bill bi-monthly.

I've had no problems at all with billing.

I (and Martin) recommend Direct Debit and not continuous payment authority on a debit or credit card.
