hathor - re the blueberries - I have one Gold Traube plant which I planted this year (March) and as far as I know neither of my neighbours has any (its really not the sort of thing they would do!) but its got a couple of clumps of fruit on already so I have to conclude it is self fertile. As for how big it grows I've no idea as its not had much chance yet!Adventure before Dementia!0

I'm so jealous of your little gems thoughI don't know why but I just can't seem to grow decent lettuces for the life in me
you are the 2nd person to have told us this. Mr divadees friend at work is so jealous he has been trying for years to grow little gems but cant manage it, our first ever year and we have inundated, so much so that we are giving them away!!!
beginners luck thats what i say.
but mr divadees friend did swap little gems some for a big bowl of his strawberries yummy0 -
Thanks WestonDave
A bit of digging around the seed/fruit supplying websites seems to point to Top Hat as being a likely choice. Apparently its max height & spread is 16-24inches, although once established it's described as a heavy cropper, and is self-fertile.0 -
Darned Wind  ! Got home from work to find all my sweetcorn at a 45 degree angle - have propped them back up with canes but not holding out much hope. Anyone got any ideas whether they will survive ????
If there is not damage/snapping to the stem they should be fine. Make sure the roots are firmly in the ground - earth up a bit if necessary and firm in with the foot - assuming your soil is not saturated from the rainThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
I have been really inspired by the layout and containers people use in the pictures. They all look much neater than mine.
I have seen pictures of people using water butts as containers, Brogusblue has one. I would like to get my hands on one or two for my toms/peppers and sunflowers but dont have the slightest idea where you get these from.(without paying £20 as I might hack it in half:o)
I promise to take some pictures of mine tommorow, come rain or shine.0 -

Not grown much this year as i only moved here 6 months ago, i dug a boarder down one edge and planted spare toms, beetroot, lettuce, radish, spring onions among petunias, sweetpeas, margarete and delphiums.

I have found a variety of strawberry I fancy for next year, which is exclusive to Ken Muir, apparently.
The website says "not available until September 2008" and also "sold out". Do you think this means they have none now but more stocks will be available from September, or there won't be any in September, come back later?
Also, it refers to frozen plants available March to July and fresh dug plants October/November for the same variety. Are these sold out as well?
Curiouser and curiouser, it seems.
What are frozen plants?
(Before anyone states the obvious, I have emailed via the Ken Muir website and had no reply yet, and just tried to phone but someone hung up on me:mad: , so I thought I'd try here in case any of you experienced plant-buyers could interpret for me.)
So in a nutshell: will I be able to buy these this year or not? I'm baffled!0 -
I'd try ringing again tomorrow, and hope you get someone else on the phoneBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100 / 100miles
