    Hi Lotus eater

The boat --- it is bloddy annoying.
I was trying to find an allotment but the waiting list is 18 months to 2 years so when talking to my farther in law he said I could have his back garden but I would have to cut it back first.
On the one side of my photos you can see trees and blackberry bushes, well no word of a lie that was half way accross what is now clear and the grass was about 2.5 foot high. I cut it all back and done 1 veg patch while in laws were away.
Now I have ben told I need to move my patch next year as he is making an hard standing right through my patch for that boat which is my husbands.
But my farther in law said once the bushes and trees are gone I can plant along side the fence.
Once my garden is finished (having extension built on side) I will put some veg plots in my garden, until then I can only use pots.

At least the pots will be portable, though. Better than having stuff in the ground at F-i-L's which then has to be abandoned for the concrete to go down, or miss a season 'cos it's not worth planting now that the concrete's on its way. In containers you can carry on and just shift 'em about around the builders/sailors/assorted bods in the way, can't you?:rotfl:

Besides, several of us are permanently container-only. Look on the bright side:
    • portable, as above
    • easier to protect from slugs etc
    • easier to change growing conditions, ie you choose the soil
    • no digging
    • almost no weeding
    • no mowing
    • (possibly) no muddy paths
    • convenient: some can go right by the kitchen door (maybe!)

An inspiration to us first-timers still with nothing but a bit of rocket to show for our efforts! Congratulations to you.
Showing my ignorance here, but I didn't realise beets grew so tall/had such long stems above the bulbs. Will have to review where I was planning to put mine when I get the seeds. Thinking of trying Pablo F1 when I can get them, as they seem to be recommended for containers.

This is a mange tout some of you might like to try. It has really pretty pink flowers (like sweet peas) and crops well. The pods, being purple, are easy to see so less get missed. It grew taller than I thought so next year I'll stake it better.
