I read somewhere that tinfoil (thick tinfoil not the value apparently...) works well too... might be worth experimenting next year0

OH seems to think that the courgette plants we've got will produce yellow courgettes.............is there such a thing ? We've grown them for years now and they've always been green.Mary

Hi there
Yes..Im growing golden courgettes...wonder if you have got a stray seed when they were packed...mum has some normal courgettes and then 1 plant that is like a triffid..both from the same pack-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I bought the plants from a little shop not far from here........she was selling a few for local people so I've no idea what the seeds were.
Phew......at least we know it's quite normal for them not to be green and I assume the taste is the same ?Mary

Taste is pretty similar but they add a welcome variety of colour to pasta dishes, ratatoiulle etc, not to mention looking great in the veg patch or on the patio!
The yellow variety I have is called Parador. Was very prolific last year - a bit slower to get going this year due to colder weather I guess..·:*¨:starmod: ¨*:·. Rubiales.·:*¨ :starmod: ¨*:·.

All going well here ......... went to clear out a planter with some old salad leaves/herbs in and when we pulled up some of the leaves .......... we found carrots at the bottom !!!!
:T
Shouldn't have been there as I only put in mixed salad and chives (think the salad was a freebie from a magazine from what I can remember so must have been contaminated in some way). I thought it odd that these had grown after we'd finished with the salad leaves (thought they were weeds ! We can be forgiven though, being newbies, didn't recognise them as carrots)
Anyway, they were only small (about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long) but they were absolutely delicious ! Went straight out and bought two big buckets and some more compost and some carrot seeds
Also had my first raspberry today (came home from work and it was peeking at me from the kitchen window), lovely and pink, saying 'eat me before a bird does' - so I did !Told hubby a bird must have got it
- think he had is eye on it too :rotfl: .
Very quick question for all you experts - my dwarf beans don't seem to be doing very much, can't see any flowers, grown quite tall (about 3ft) - anything I'm doing wrong? Have flowers on runner beans so kind of expecting them on the dwarfs too.
Have also dug out the area for the next raised bed (where my swede and winter things are going) - getting the wood tomorrow so hopefully can plant some things out next weekend. Have to stop digging now otherwise I won't have any lawn left !
Will post some piccies at the weekend too.
Sorry for the long post !Hope everyone else is ok?

Not setting myself up as an expert but have had mixed success with my beans this year, too. The runners got off to a slow start but have been in flower now for about 2 weeks and one set of dwarf French beans have just started showing flowers since the weekend although planted at the same time as the runners.

Some of the fancy varieties of dwarf and climbing bean I planted (Bergold/Stratos/ Violet-podded) have been very slow to do anything - the Stratos particularly disappointing as they have barely grown at all.
Have gone a bit mad with beans this year after buying a multi-variety pack so should still get a good crop of various types (I hope!!);).·:*¨:starmod: ¨*:·. Rubiales.·:*¨ :starmod: ¨*:·.

Photos please folks..................
In response to kazwookie's request...
...photos of my veg plot from last weekend, including the new bed to accommodate the contents of my overflowing seed trays!!
Have planted out more of various types of peas/mangetout because we never seem to have enough, some red spring onions, yet more runner beans, a few red-flowered broads (maybe a bit late!), some transplanted salad bowl lettuce and some kale at the back for the winter! Probably too much in such a small space but experimenting!!;)

Behind the new bed are some recently-purchased raspberry canes to be planted when I've built a wire frame - hopefully next weekend!
Have moved one of my aubergine plants outside as an experiment to see whether greenhouse is best or not!
http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn129/rubiales62/Garden15June2008020.jpg
Greenhouse currently has aforementioned aubergines, tomatoes (not even flowering yet!), peppers/chillis and a huge pot with 2 cucumber plants that are beginning to produce little fruits at last.

Patio has herbs, hanging basket toms (fruiting nicley!:D ), potatoes and, you guessed it...a large pot with more beans! (Photos to follow as I ran out of daylight!!)
Sorry for mammoth post - wanted to get it all done in one go!!!:D.·:*¨:starmod: ¨*:·. Rubiales.·:*¨ :starmod: ¨*:·.
