Figs are hardy if you give them a sheltered spot near a wall for instance and you can get them to fruit in the UK, but tis out first attempt so can't claim to be an expert!
Citrus need to go inside for the winter but they do benefit from a summer holiday outside, but that said they drop their leaves at the slightest thing - too dry, too wet, too cold, too windy etc. We've had success with the calamondins before but haven't tried a lemon before (got them all from Lidl BTW)
Kaat lady, I'll pm the tablet recipe i am going to blog it but hadn't got around to it yet.Nodwah: you mean figs and lemons can go outside?
I knew you get lemon trees to grow and even fruit in pots, but I sort of assumed that would be strictly greenhouse/conservatory only, ie under glass and heated in the winter.
Can they really cope on the patio?
Not sure if I'm amazed or bewildered!!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

Don't know about lemons but I have a fig in a pot on my patio which has survived quite happily over the last two winters. It does produce a few figs, but not many. Would probably do better in the ground, I suspect..·:*¨:starmod: ¨*:·. Rubiales.·:*¨ :starmod: ¨*:·.

Here is one of my mixed beds. Sweetcorn, parsnips, carrots, dwarf beans, sprouts, and cabbage, and, also the reason why I'm growing lots of cabbage, some of my bunnies:D~~~~~~~~~~~~Halifax, taking the Xtra since 1853:rolleyes:~~~~~~~~~~~~0

Lovely colour. What breed are they? It's nice to see healthy, lean and well groomed rabbits for a change.
Some of my friends over feed their rabbits and give them rubbish, then wonder why they get so fat they can't clean their own behinds and have the squits."carpe that diem"0 -
Please can someone tell me: are you supposed to pinch out the growing tip of vine tomatoes (ie not bush or hanging ones) when the plant has four lots of flowers or buds, or only when it has four lots of baby tomatoes?
My furthest-advanced tomato plant (a lot behind you folks, to be sure, but only planted recently) has four lots of flowers showing, but only a single baby tomato as yet. Do I leave it for now, or should I get pinching to help it convert the other flowers to fruit?
I'm feeding it once a week, by the way.
When you say vine i assume you mean upright ones
you pinch out the tip when you have 4 trusses(a branch either side of the stem) which are in flower/bearing fruit then all the plants energy will go into fruit production not leaf/stem production , if still confused check out BBC gardening site might be pics and a better description
