I heard that lots of cattle have died this year from eating badly grown sweet poatoes that had been added to their feed:eek:

Only six cattle have died and it's very rare for something like this to happen. There are no known cases of sweet potato poisoning in humans ;)

They've just been showing how to grow sweet potatoes on Gardeners World! :D

Apparently, they are climbers, unlike normal spuds, so you need tall stakes arranged in a wigwam shape for them to climb up. They also said to keep an eye out for any early frosts Sept onwards as they will need lifting to stop them rotting. Should get approx 1kg of potatoes from each slip planted.

Hope this helps you a bit anyway. They said it's a new thing RHS are trialling so this is the first year they've grown them as well. Good luck with it! :T

    Ooooh thanks chameleon :T

I have them in crates in a tent...the ones that are a bit like a cut down proper tent ..and once they get going i will be running strings from the crate and around the frames for them to scramble over..im doing this with melons in the other tent at the moment and seems to be working ..so far.... and i have fleece on stand by... just in case :p
1 kilo per slip  i have about 40 slips set.... sweet potatoes anyone?:rotfl:

Tomsolomon.. I have that tape around some of my tubs n troughs... the only problem you will find is that if there is any foliage hanging over ..the little blighters comando crawl across it and stil get your goodies:mad: ... oh and after a while it goes like vert de gris(SP)... so i occasionally get a cloth (usually when the weather has been bad and the rain has kicked dirt up)and buff it up...just in case :o
