  • For those who were wondering about the removable plates version I have just changed my smaller foreman to a larger one with removeable plates

it makes life Sooooooo much easier

Don't have a dish washer so couldn't comment there but i just take off and put in the sink whilst still hot and it cleans in seconds - then very easy to just dry and put back together.

Got mine in currys half price last week - worth checking out!

    The next grilleration.......

I had a grilled pork chop with grilled wegges of pear done on my baby george and served with a slice of dolcelatte on top for dinner tonight. I use it quite a bit. I clean it by wiping it down while it is still warm to get the stuff off. Then I give it a wipe with a dry cloth with some clean cooking oil. I don't use water or detergent on it because it reduces the life of the PTFE surfacing.

  • I bought my george just before christmas, half price on amazon and think it's great. I have a small kitchen and only buy appliances that I think will be worth the space (though I'm sometimes wrong!!!). The george "formby" as my DH likes to call it certainly earns it's keep. As has been mentioned toasties are fab, better than in the toastie machine. I have also done those small sandwich baguettes you can get, they turn out similar to the pannini's you pay a fortune for in posh coffee shops. Did HM burgers tonight - excellent. TBH I'm not the worlds best housewife and was a bit concerned about the cleaning aspect before I got it. Even though I don't always remember to clean while it's still warm (usually a doddle), if you wet a couple of sheets of kitchen towel and lay them on the grill then put down the lid, all the residue softens after 30 mins or so and just wipes off.

Do they give off a lot of smoke when they are cooking?

I have never noticed any from mine. I have the largeish one with the adjustable temperature, which I got in Costco a few years ago for £20. I keep it on the work surface and use it alot - I make toasties, burgers, chops, chicken breasts, fish, bagels, panninis (sp), grilled veg and all kinds of stuff. I really like it and am considering upgrading to one of the new ones with the removable plates, but which you can cook pizzas and so on it - you remove the plates and the box which is left is a mini flat oven thing - I saw it on QVC and it looked great, but I don't think QVC do GF anymore and I haven't seen it on anywhere else. It was about £60.

  • Never try fish fingers or other soft grill type things e.g. cauliflower & cheese grills ... disaster :rotfl:

i do fish fingers on mine with no problem. to be honest i've had my house 25 months now and only used the grill to do cheese on toast and warm pitta bread. I used the formby for everything else.

I bunged everything in it, on hot. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that anytign wiht bone s(pork chops etc) didn't look 'done'.

But everything tasted 'clean'. Just shove stuff in it, and see what you think.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
