    Hello
I got my George Foreman grill from my mum who is always buying gadgets that she never uses - she then passes them on to me. I love my grill and use it at least once a week and more in the summer, as I put it on the patio with an extension cable through the window and grill food outside. This is if I cannot be bothered to get the BBQ out for a small amount of food.
I grill steaks, chicken, HM burgers, chops, fish and veg with it.
I marinade the food the same way I would if cooking on the BBQ, leave it marinating for 1 hr or so and then grill it. You must be careful as it grillS very quickly as it cooks from 2 sides - you do not have to turn it over. Serve meats and fish with salads and breads and this is a very quick meal. Make sure you heat it up for about 5 mins before you use.

Chicken breasts - I usually half, then they cook quicker and cook for 4 -5 mins. Have a quick check to make sure they are cooked through.
Fish - usually salmon or cod - about 3 mins
Steak - 3-6 mins depending on how you like it.

Marinades - soy sauce, veg oil, garlic, S&P,ginger and honey, Great with chicken and fish not oily fish though)

Dry marinades - a miXture of any dried herbs, chilli powder, cayeene pepper or paprika, great for steaks or pork chops

For lamb chops or fillets, I marinate in olive oil, garlic, rosemary, lemon juice and lemon rind. This is delIcious.

For the marinade I just mix a bit of everything in a bowl then adjust to taste.

I hope this helps. Paige X

    Thanks Paige

Some excellent ideas for marinades. I tend to mean well where they are concerned and then forget to be forward thinking for later in the day!

You are making me even more enthusiastic about clearing that space! I am rubbish at cooking steak normally (tend to overcook) so I am sure I will get better results from the Grill. I have heard that vegs are excellent from the Grill.

Thanks so much for the link to the thread. Excellent! I have already been copying and pasting handy tips, recipes into word documents and will keep in a folder for easy browsing whilst sitting with a glass of wine of an evening! At the rate I am going I will have to break down into sections and it could be 10 volumes long!

    Grannybroon,

Re storing the George Forman.....We have a family sized one and it was beginning to get in the way but recently when I did a big clear out of the kitchen cupboards I tried storing it on it's side in the cupboard and that's saved a lot of space.

    Thanks again Pink-winged.

We have a large space on top of the microwave filled with absolute clutter (including 5 ashtrays). As neither of use smoke any more and no-one smokes in the house when visiting, one ashtray on the garden store for them and the rest can go to the jumble!

Just need to move Grill nearer and socket when wanting to use so I think this resolves the dilema. It was actually DH who figures all this out!!!!

Oooh some great ideas on here.
I bought my grill from Ebay last year for a tenner. It is great for when the gas goes and I don't have any money to top up.
I have done sausages and bacon and chops and fish-fingers in there but never though of toasties so I am going to try them and if I end up doing a good job I can then freecycle my bright yellow sandwich toaster LOL

Thanks for reviving this thread :D

I normally cook bacon and toasted sandwiches in my George (and crumpets of course, I looooove crumpets with butter and marmalade!).
I sometimes cook chicken breasts but found it a bit bland. So I marinaded the chicken breast in some shop bought marinade (lea and perrins I think) but the marinade burnt before the chicken breast was cooked.
    Any ideas what went wrong?

When I stay at my boyfriends all we have to cook with is his George Forman and a microwave. We cook most things on the George even chips, ok you can't cook many but they taste as nice as those done in the oven.

Also when cooking things like sausages etc, it's surprising about the amount of 'gunk' that comes out of stuff.

No idea as to what went wrong sorry Lowri as new to this myself.
Last night I boned & diced chicken thighs (lol, ok cut the thighs into 'chunks' and strips' ;) ) Sprinkled cajun seasoning on and then cooked. It only took a few minutes to cook through and was VERY tasty (thigh meat is very juicy on it) Tossed into quinoa and sprinkled with spring oninon - next time will add diced red pepper or tomato. Served in past bowls and the boys loved it.

(PS I always coat mine thorughly with olive oil as apparently the non stick can wear away quite quickly)
