If you try and call them they probably wont answer, and if they do they will say exactly the same as on the letter. I think as a lot of people have realised, ignoring them is probably best.0

Hi Leecox, hope you don't mind me asking this but wondered if you lived in the Worcs area as it is a Butlers gym I'm registered with and wondered if it was the same one. When I first won the so called 'prize' I went with my daughter to look around the gym, I was very sceptical as to whether it was all legit as I don't believe you get anything for free. The manager at the gym told me the complete opposite to what you were told. I was informed that it was a genuine prize donated by him and that full membership for 3 yrs would cost a considerable amount and that I'd 'won' a decent prize. We signed up thinking the monthly charge was for maintenance of the equipment but then found out it was this scam. I am now at the Empingham stage but one of the other posters on here said the gyms had a lot more to do with this than people realised but I can assure you that the manager at Butlers gym does not want to know! Tim Thorne at Hereford Trading Standards knows all about this and has been trying to shut the AMC/Fitlife down. I'm just ignoring everything now with fingers crossed! OFT and Watchdog know too.0

hi im at the empingham stage too how many letters have they sent you?when do you think they will be shut down?0

Coxpip, it is the Butlers gym in worcs, it sounds very similar to what happened to me. I think AMC and Fitlife do the scam in an area until they are found out and then move to a different area. I have not contacted the gym and I do not particularly want to. From now on I intend to ignore all letters sent to me and I will only take action if I get a court summons. If I do get a summons Tim Thorne might get his chance!!0

Leecox - I thought so, sounded too familiar. Tashywashy, not sure if they will ever succeed in closing these firms down, they tend to get dissolved and then start up again under a similar sounding name. I've had 2 letters from Empingham now, both threatening, but I've just done what everyone else on here has done which is to reply, firmly, that I have no intention of backing down, and then just ignoring them.0

I have received the letters as well saying 'it is non-cancellable' and i am in a 'credit agreement'.
The strange thing is that i have an IVA.....and one of the 'rules' (as AMC like to say) is that I cannot enter into a 'credit agreement'. Now, any other legitimate company would have done a credit check before allowing me to proceed.
After reading this enlightening forum, I intend to reply to them via e-mail stating that i have an IVA and also putting a link to this blog to make them aware that people are realizing it is a scam and tell them to stop sending me letters as I will be ignoring them!
If they dicide to proceed, i will quite gladly go to court and my credit rating is non-existent at the moment. Im quite sure that a court would be very interested to hear that a company is claming to give people a prize, mis-selling gym membership, without letting them see the terms of what they are signing, and claiming to tie people into a credit agreement (especially someone with an IVA).
I will keep you posted!
Hello Lee, I too am in a similar situation (however I'm actually waiting to apply for an IVA) as I am in a debt management programme with the same rule in the fact that I too am not allowed to enter any credit agreements! In fact I'm sure I mentioned this in my first letter to this lot - but I don't really think they read these letters we send anyway?0 -
I makes me so angry when you think that this is what it boils down to:-
"Hi we're a scamming company who needs your money - so what we're gonna do is give you a 3-year membership where all we ask in return is a little financial help with the upkeep of the equipment. To make it easier for you, we have pre-written out a standing order mandate for you to sign, for your convinience of payment method - but don't worry, cancelling this won't be a problem should you ever need to, we'll even tell you that on the day by one of our trust-worthy reps.....until you actually realise that you have signed a non-cancellable credit agreement!!!! BUT WE WON'T TELL YOU THAT HUH!"
I rekon without this forum that they would have suceeded by most of us...because when you're on your own with this, is does look kinda scary & legit against you...in writing that is! The realism that they go forth with all this crap against you & actually snigger behind your back because you have just AGREED to pay hundreds of pounds actually make me SICK!
It's obvious too that they dish out the prize for TWO people cos it's a popular trend to go to the gym with a friend...they've done their homework.....now they need to get BUSTED....TODAY!!!!!0 -
Hi all
Does anyone have a more recent address for FitLife....cos guess what....the address I've been writing to and receiving replies from for months appears to be gone.
I have just had a letter returned to me, which I sent on 5th December. I sent the letter recorded delivery to all companies concerned, however, it appears that the postie got no answer (probably because it would have been a Saturday), left a card for them to come and pick it up, and they havn't.
Just wondering if anyone has heard from them recently?
PS. I have had no reply so far from Empingham, and I replied to them on 9th February, as did trading standards.0 -
when i contacted trading standerds they advised me not to send letters to them by recorded delivery.
best thing you can do is keep your letters that you sent, and if you get any come backs at least you can say you tried. i wouldnt worry about it to much, they cant do nothing, there just bullies, low life, scum, crooks and i hope to god there reading this. NOBODY GIVING YOU ANY MONEY SO F..K RIGHT OFF. TAKE US ALL TO COURT AND STOP THE !!!! ASSING AROUND CUSS ITS GETTING VERY SILLY NO:TW.0 -
I have just received a phone call from Lyle Hill (02380988774) and they said I have missed two payments and would I like to pay. I of course said no and explained everything again. They said it would get sent to debt collector. When I asked who the debt collector was so I could pass to Trading Standards and that I was recording the phone guess what happened.....they hung up! How very strange!?!?!0
