hey pete
yea i think that's best-u might as well just send em the letters but don't tell them u've moved. As u know, trading standards told me to cancel in writing and that was all i needed to do, so u'l be fine. And apparently his advice to my friend when she rang him worrying about the debt collectors was to tell them to F%*& off!!
I know i said about maybe ppl should speak to empingham, but that was just cos im not sure whether they might put something on the credit rating.
Sorry my brain is like a sieve today! I like that better-tell em u've moved then blow them a raspberry!!0 -
Hi all, until yesterday I had not heard a thing for three months and I was starting to get hopeful that all this was perhaps coming to an end. Then a letter arrived from Empingham saying the full amount of £500 was now due and I must pay it immediately. Obviously I am not going to (the amount isn't even right!!) but my heart sank. So I am now going to reply to Empingham saying that I have no intention of paying any more and stating all the things you have all said to do. I never heard back from Watchdog so don't know what happened there, also I returned the consent form back to the Office of Fair Trading but have heard no more from them either. I wonder where opsmith's wife is, as she had her work's solicitor acting on her behalf. At least no-one on here has had any more action yet other than letters - good luck everyone.0

Hi coxpip
is this the first communication you've had with empingham? i'm worried now, why can't they leave us alone the arsewipes:mad:0 -
Hi all,
Well, I spoke to soon. I received my 1st letter from Empingham on Friday, I hadn't heard anything for a while up until then.
They are stating that they have been appointed to recover the outstanding account from me and that there appears to be no reason as to why payment has been with held!! Clearly, AMC, FitLife and Lyle Hill have not made them aware of the MANY letters I hvae sent informing them that I am not paying a thing and my reasons why!
They state that the outstanding amount is £545.49....I have no idea where this amount has came from. The total that should be payable is £396.72. They seem a bunch of fruitloops who clearly can't add up correctly.
I am going to speak to Trading Standards again and will post an update when I have one.
P.S To the people who are successfully getting these idiots off our backs, what's the trick?0 -
Hi lilmissnoodles and angrylisa, yes it is the first time I have heard from Empingham, and like you I received my letter Friday too, and yes the amount they are asking me to pay is wrong too!! It seems like they are having another go at rounding everyone up because my letter has the same wording as yours. I also notice they have a new address though in Corby, different to the ones I have seen posted on here by others. I don't know what to do now, I still have no intention of paying and have written to Empingham to tell them that, but it is worrying. I just wish it would all end.0

Hi all,
I signed up with fitlife ltd in feb '07. Mid '08 I had changed address and bank account. Now feb '09 I have received a letter from ECI Ltd saying that I have not paid since mid '08, after reading this thread it seems that this company is a scam and should not be touched with a 10' barge pole. When I signed up with Fitlife ltd I did not receive any pre-contract info just the credit agreement. If I refuse to pay and fight it do I have a case or will I make things worse for myself?
very concerned,
Paul0 -
They probably wrote to u cos they couldn't get u on the phone-they contacted me on the phone and i explained to them that fitlife were con artists and that trading standards were investigating, and about how the credit agreement was invalid as they conned ppl into signing them-so therefore i wasn't paying and something along the lines of being happy to go to court to expose them as they didn't have a chance in winning. The bloke said he would talk to his boss to see if they were going to pursue it, as they wouldn't want to be associated with con artists(b****x!)and he would let me know in a week. That was AGES ago, and i never heard a peep back. So i suggest you ring em, let them know that you know it's a scam(as they obviously know really, they just seem to be seeing how many they can scare into paying), say you've got trading standards backing you, and hopefully, like me (touch wood!) that will be the last of it.
Yes Paul, you definately DO have a case!0 -
Hi all, I have spoken to Empingham on the phone as well as sending a 2 page letter to them explaining everything. They have asked me for evidence that I have had dealings with the OFT and Watchdog but I haven't got it as Watchdog contacted me by phone and although the OFT sent me an e-mail my printer is broken so I can't print it off. The lady I spoke to on the phone was fully aware of how I felt as I told her everything - I kept calm and told her it was a scam and how many people had been conned. I also told her that I had found out that several of the 'companies' had been dissolved and that they had to keep coming up with new names and addresses, she seemed quite nice but we shall see!!0

to send ur oft email to-hope it still works
not that u should have to anyway-as they said on Watchdog tonight(still watching and hoping)u don't have to prove u don't owe the debt, THEY have to prove you owe it, and u don't0 -
I have been contacted by Empingham by phone around November 08 and I told them the whole situation. I was then called around a week later by someone else from Empingham who was very abrupt and rude. He stated that I had to contact them in writing with my representations and also get my Trading Standards Officer to contact them in writing. My trading standards officer stated that he was not prepared to pander to their constant attempts to get me to pay up! I did write to Empingham and c/c'd to letter to Fitlife. Touch wood, I've not heard anything back so far. I did tell them the situation and suggested that they take me to court.
I have also done a credit check on myself too. I have no credit record with Fitlife or any other company with any similar name....... So I'm confused how they can threaten damage to my credit rating when I don't appear to have credit with them!!!!! Has anyone else done a credit check on themselves?0
