I could do with some advice regarding Lylehill Gyms.
Just had a call from my 73 year old mother regarding demands for late payments from Lylehill.
As far as I have ascertained my mom signed up to the Gym on the 14th April 2011, two days later she realisms the folly and went back to cancel. She was told to write to the head office in Southampton, which she did. As a non-techie, it was hand written and not copied. She also cancelled the DD.
My initial advice is to contact Citizens advice and visit with all copies of correspondence and agreements.
Personally I want to throttle the Lylehill and my mom, what possessed her to sign a 3 year contract is beyond me, she gets more than enough exercise window shopping.

I was advised by National Surveys that I had won a free membership to The Gym in Welling. When I went to join, I was told I had to pay £16.53 for the maintenance of the gym (so it isn't free at all.) I was also told it was a year's agreement, although when I read the small print later, it did say it was a 2 year agreement. I was also asked to pay £10 cash deposit so that my membership would be activated immediately and was assured by Chris, Chiltern Region, the Associated members Club rep that the £10 would be subtracted from the total amount I owe.
The Gym did not live up to expectations with machinery regularly broken and the actual gym was quite grubby and smelly.I decided to try and give notice to cancel my agreement only to receive really strong threatening letters from Lyle Hill. I could see there was no way out of this so I pay the remainder balance for the whole 2 years minus my £10 deposit. I sent this cheque to Lyle Hill last November and clarely stated how I had calculated the rremaining balance (minus the £10 cash deposit) and asked that they confirm I no longer owed any money in writing. i recieved nothing although the cheque was promptly processed. Just this weekend (9/7/11) I recieved another letter from Lyle Hill saying I owe £16.53 and I needed to pay it propmptly. I was furious and sent an email explaining my self fully. This morning I recieved a phone call from a very abrupt woman at Lyle Hill who has no customer contact skills what so ever stating that I still owed £10 not £16.53. I explained (again) about the £10 cash, but she said that was not her problem, I had to pay £10 immediately or she would send my account to debt collectors and if I wanted my £10 cash back, I had to take it up with Associated Members Club. This is EXTORTION!! I do NOT owe any money. Lyle Hill have known since last November how much I had paid in full and FONAL payment, now thay are pressuring me 8 months later to pay them money IMMEDIATELY. I tried to email Associated members Club, but the email address on my paperwork is invalid (!) and there is no phone number for them (!) I am writning to them today. Watch this space.0 -
Hi all,
Me and my girlfriend signed up for a couple of these memberships two years ago. Due to a change in our working lives, we are no longer able to get to the gym we use (which is local) and as we are out of the two year tied period we are looking to cancel our memberships.
However, reading through this thread it seems a real minefield and although we do not feel ripped off (in our cases, the fees charged through AMC were cheaper than the gyms, so it made sense for us) we are worried about how we now go about cancelling our memberships, having read through all this.
Where do we start? We live in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Are we best going to trading standards? There are no contact details for the company on any of the paperwork we have.
Appreciate any help and apologies if this is repetitious.0 -
I can't believe these people are still going since we first found this site in August 2008 and after Watchdog rang my husband and I to investigate these morons.0

Yes, LarryHarry, they're still going... including the rude woman with the interpersonal skills of a zit. We're in the process of firing off letters to Lyle Hill who seem, as ever, to be operating entirely on their own since the company EaziPay are happy to confirm that membership is cancelled and we have no need to pay further (where EziPay fits into the grand scheme of things I'm no longer sure, I thought they were the people organising the finance).

I have just cancelled my gym membership with lyle hill due to moving. I have given them written confirmation saying this. I tried to find some kind of contract that i signed but couldnt because i didnt sign one, it was all done over the phone. Only thing i have is a direct debit guarantee which states that i have the right to cancel at any time. So i have now they keep ringing me saying i will incur bank charges unless i restart them. Any advice.0
