After the excellent coverage in the Cheltenham and Gloucestershire Echo; the management have decided to take it out on the staff! Rather than correcting their ways; the manager has decided to sack someone every 30 minutes until he finds out who spilled the beans to the Cheltenham Echo! This just somes up what a petty nasty company Universal/Matters Consulting/AMC/Millenium Experience is!

    How sad!

    Hello All

I have recently read two newspaper articles regarding this scam situation. One in The Hounslow Chronicle entitled 'Gym contracts were illegal' and the other was in the Gloucestershire Echo 'Cheltenham firms criticised over gym membership'.

I would have posted the links but apparently I'm not able to so try and find them and give them a read. OFT have been in touch with the scammers and told them to sort themselves out. They have to provide cancellation rights now. And a Mr Richard Seaman from Millennium Enterprise states,

" But we have agreed to make this clearer in future. Anyone who has signed up to a previous contract will have the right to cancel it."

I think this is, hopefully, the start of the end to this scam for us all.

    What d'you think??

I spoke to my contact at Hereford Trading Standards and he says he would stop them straight away. However Gloucestershire Trading Standards seem a bit lapse! However if we keep on phoning them up and writing to them; they may decided to get out of bed and do something!

    Keep the pressure on!

hi- we recieved a letter today from Universal Consulting Ltd trading as National Surveys at the Victoria House address mentioned above saying '

'our number had been drawn for one of the 'free gifts donated by local business' Total value of gifts exceed £12,400 and can only be collected in person and they are free with no commitment!'

I went with the rule of thumb 'too good to be true usually is' and checked it out on here.
I'll be giving this a wide berth methinks

Honestly Bakersgirl, all you need to do is read these pages - all the advice you need is here. Cancel your direct debit and don't worry. Good luck with the brain scan.
  • Having been had by this you won a premium membership scam like you all and being so grateful to have found this thread and cancelled accordingly without much fear, ( due to health reasons I chose to opt out as I was promised I could for a month or two and got all this aggro!!)
I also checked the Office of Fair Trading site and found the latest reassuring post there. I don't think I can put direct links here, but if you go to the OFT site, go to press releases 2009 and you'll see the October 2009 title:
Four firms give the OFT undertakings about selling gym membership

Read and it and jump for joy. Cancel and be calm. I sent a copy of my side of the story plus the copy paste of the OFT statement and the excerpt of the newspaper article mentioned before in with my letter of cancellation I sent with recorded delivery to all firms, including the gym applicable to the contract I signed...ha, I don't think I'll hear anything nasty now. Thank God for this site and all you good peeps' posts, without it I'd be seriously fretting now. And good ol' OFT, too.

  • Have received, this week, a letter from Associated Members Club cancelling my membership at last! Thank you all for your posts which I have followed and used the advice in them. Received all the usual letters and even the debt collection one form them. Trading Standards in Flintshire were very good with advice about letter writing and eventually a letter from them seemed to sort it out. I just wish I hadn't paid for a year before getting out. Good luck to everyone trying to get out of this scam and thanks again.
