  • Please help, I was conned into this in Nov 2008, and although I only have 5 months left to endure of paying and not going, I cancelled my DD, and they wrote to me at my new address threatening debt collectors and said it would affect my credit aggreement etc so stupidly set up a new one. My baby is due in 4 weeks, i've sent a letter to them from my midwife and they've suspended the expiration date but will still take payments - i'm not getting maternity pay as started a new job so have no money to pay out!!! They stated that FitLife LTD would still take my payments, but i've never heard of them, I was only aware of Lyle Hill LTD, so am utterly confused, somewhat scared and don't know what to do. ~If debt collectors turn up my husband will go mental - not at me though, but I don't need this stress. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Hi all!,
I have had a very interesting read on here, and am heartened to hear others in the same boat have escaped.
My partner and I received the "Free" Membership (we thought it was a prize from the online surveys we often do).
We were never told (like everyone else here apparently) that the agreement was non-cancellable.
We ended up paying £16.53 each per month for two years after unsuccessfully trying to cancel the agreement after we got home and found the hidden "agreement" underneath the carbon copies (the signature isn't even on the line!).

(Don't I wish I had found this forum earlier?.... ;-)

The only phone number we had was a payment line who knew nothing about anything.

Our two year contract expired on the 22nd of may, so we cancelled our direct debit, to be promptly issued a missed payment letter, closely followed by another subtle reminder referring us to the "non-cancellable" part of the agreement.

It quite clearly states on our paperwork that the third year is optional, with no instructions to notify them earlier or anything if you do not want it. Has anyone else had this after finishing their contract?.

I emailed them through their website, detailing their "mistake" and received an automated reply (and nothing since) so if they think they are going to pull the "we haven't heard from you" rubbish, then they are sorely mistaken!

Thanks to all the great advice on here, a choice selection of words will shortly be winging their way to Lyle Hill/AMC!.
Maybe a visit to my local Trading Standards is in order! (not sure if they will help me now though as the agreement is supposed to be ended).

Just deciding now what to include with my rejection letters!

Thank you all for giving us hope! :T

  • I have read a lot of these post and I must say I find most of the people are naive and incredibly stupid.
I took out two memberships two years ago for myself and my wife and have had absolutely no problems.
Everything was fully explained BEFORE we signed and most importantly, we really wanted to join a gym anyway but found it cost prohibitive. We were under no illusions that we were getting "something for nothing", regardless of what the promotion says. What we did get was two gym memberships at more than half the normal price. We go to the gym four times or five times a week and have had more than our money's worth.
Firstly, the gym and the company offering the promotions have to make money so they can operate, so yes there are charges to cover this and the costs of overheads, THAT would have been explained, it was to us and really , it's not difficult to understand.
We were NEVER put under pressure to sign, and were asked if we fully understood BEFORE we signed.
It seems to that people should listen and read BEFORE signing and only go if they have a genuine interest in participating in gym membership and not because they thing they're getting "something for nothing".
At the end of our two years the company offered us another year at the same rate. Unfortunately we can't accept. I wrote and explained we were moving , they thanked us and ended our contract ... NO PROBLEM !!!!!!

My advice , PAY ATTENTION WHEN SOMEONE EXPLAINS SOMETHING TO YOU, AND STOP COMPLAINING BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND.

    STUPID PEOPLE !!!!!!!
  • How can 404 people and oft be wrong all I CAN THINK IS THAT YOU MUST WORK FOR THIS SCAM FIRM
  • waylander40 - I agree with lister44 and think you are probably affiliated with these scam merchants... Just because you weren't burned doesn't mean nobody else was...

If you bothered to read some of the accounts on here you might realise that these people lie and cheat and hound innocent folks with this scam scheme and - whilst some people may have made errors in judgement - others were completely scammed... How is it not a scam to have you sign an agreement which includes carbon sheets that are entirely different from the signed top sheet?

If you join the scheme, use the facilities and never need to cancel / transfer them that's fine for you but calling everybody stupid because they were lied to and cheated/terrorised into paying out money that should not be paid is a sad way to behave.

Why don't you just wind your neck in and mind your own business... (unless maybe this is your business)!
  • i too have been conned by this company.

i signed up to it in september 2008, i was not told that i could not cancel, i didn't even have a copy of this letter in with the agreement.

i recently found my agreement and on it it says that i pay for 23 months.........that would mean i last paid in august of this year.

it also says though that the final payment will be in august 2011, that would mean the credit was for 3yrs?????

i'm not happy with this at all and now need to stop any further payments being made, i don't want to be chased for missed payments when in reality they now owe me 3 months totalling nearly £60.
i can't find any number to contact them on, i'm going to cancel the standing order with my bank but i know they will try again to withdraw the money, then i'm likely to be chased by debt collectors for not paying.

i'm really peed off that they've taken this extra money and i want it back and want to be rid of this company.

    help?????

Thought you might be interested in this:

All the information you want to know about this bunch of greedy ba*tards: companies, names & addresses.

    Basically there are 4 co's:
    Millennium Experience (Direct Marketing) Ltd
    Matters Consulting Ltd
    Millennium Experience Ltd, and
    Fitlife Ltd

    Only 2 addresses:
Victoria House, 1 Gloucester Road, Cheltenham, GL51 8LN
53c Manor Road North, Itchen, Southampton, SO19 2DT (Fitlife)

    And a handful of people:
    David Black
    Peter Farnell
    Amanda Phillips
Alphons Petrus Smit and Doriana Smit (Fitlife)

We've been dealing with Lyle Hill Membership Management (at the Southampton address) and when my husband took a call from their 'bailiffs' (wot, no court order?) he told them not to bother calling again because he was going to see a solicitor! Haven't heard anything since. In any case, considering they've been going against the undertakings that they signed some years ago for the Office of Fair Trading I don't think they've got a bloody leg to stand on!:j
  • Now we're being harrassed by Empingham Resolution & Negotiation who are basically "bailiffs". Do I care? Do I bu**ery! I've checked the search enginess and there's even a blog at the Mirror about these people so I've sent an online complaint via Consumer Direct and I'm hoping somebody might be able to stop the bast**ds! :D
