An update: I have received replies from AMC & ECI, both passing the buck, and saying that they are not the ones I should be writing to. They also suggested that i should keep up my payments(as if!!)
I wrote to Fitlife at the same time as to the others, but today, my letter was returned to me, uopened. I sent it recorded delivery but noone was there to sign, and noone called for it.
Very strangely, the address I sent it to (PO BOX 90, Gloucester) had had a sticker put over the address with:
A SMIT,
REDRO,
SCHOOL LANE,
BRIMPSFIELD
written on it.
Still it was undelivered.
Can anyone tell me of any other address i can write to for Fitlife please? Or even an email address? I sent it to the address that i had on my paperwork, so I'm wondering if they have done a bunk?.....
I haven't had any non payment demands yet but i am expecting one any day now. They have NO chance of getting any more of my hard-earned money from me. Enough is enough and I am going to fight them to the very end.
Also, has anyone had any more dealings/letters/threats etc about this gym 'freebie' (I use the term loosely)?
Maggie
i have tracked them down please see my post and i have also spoken to the office above and all the company i have listed on my thread work from the same office on the ground floor please see my post page 100 -

Grangit, as said above, cancel that DD IMMEDIATELY!! Don't worry about what trading standrds told u as it depends which office u talk to, if they haven't heard of this scam they are no help what-so-ever. Trading standrds in hereford know all about it and would have told u something completely different.
Anyway, it's been months since i last spoke to the "debt collector"(!), who said he would call me back in a week to let me know whether they were going to pursue it. Not heard a peep from fitlife either, neither has my friend who is in the same boat (thx 2 meluckily she's still my friend:)).
Jgalaszia-AMC (associated members club) and fitlife r still in business, i "joined" in may last year. Oh right, i've just read ur post again, and im confused, they would of had to change their name again otherwise they don't exist???!!Call the police that's fraud!(maybe)
Pete good on ya, those letters aren't going anywhere apart from the bin!!:rotfl:0 -
firstly like every one else weve been subject to this scam sent letters off to AMC- fitlife and recieved the same reply but i didnt let it stop there like all others i kept up the payments becaused of the letters i had recived being threatened with default action.
well i stopped the dd in December 2008 i then recieved a letter stateing that i had missed a payment i ignored it then would you believe it i had a phone call from fitlife lylehill amc whoever demanding that i pay otherwise i would be classed as a defaulter well. I saw red and told them what i thought of them and there company there representative was rude so i was just as rude back i then hung up on them.
:T
The next day i went to the gym that i was a member of and spoke to the manager who i think has more influence over these people than they like to admit an E-MAIL has been sent i also got in touch with tradeing standards i was advised to send letters to both these companys cancelling DD which is now ongoing

my advice to all involved with this company !!!!! cancell DD get intouch with OFT good luck all will keep you posted0 -
Hi all
The last letter I received was from Lyle Hill on 11/12/08. In this letter they told me that my details were now being sent to a debt collector. I responded, and also sent a final letter to AMC and FitLife basically telling them I was not backing down.
I have not received anything form any of the companies since then and I have not heard anything from a debt collector.
I am hoping now that this is the end. Trading Standards are of the opinion that nothing will come of this anyway so I am not going to bother worrying about it anymore.
I will update this forum should there be any further developments.0 -
Hi all,
I've not posted anything for months now....until today! The last thing I heard was 29th September from AMC stating that they'll just transfer my membership to another person, keen on becoming a member!!! And that I was very luck on this occasion and this was the end of the matter.
Today I receive a letter from Empingham wanting full payment....Idont think so!!
I called them and told them the above...as well as threatening them with Trading Standards and they said fax them the letter from AMC and that will be the end of it. We'll see!
I'll start to monitor this site again on a daily basis. Stay strong everyone!!0 -
Hi All,
I am so,so pleased that I have found this forum! I have today received a letter from Associated Members Club stating that they cannot cancel my membership. My letter is word for word exactly the same as a letter posted on here. I am being made redundant next month and as soon as I found this out (which was just before Christmas and about a week after I joined) I called the gym and told them that I didn't want to carry on with me membership. The lady said ok and that she would get someone to call me. No-one ever did. I then noticed that they had taken out a payment by standing order so I cancelled this immediately. I then got a letter saying that I owed them money etc etc and it wasn't until this point that I realised that it was a "credit agreement". This wasn't explained to me at all. I have been a gym member before and have always just cancelled my membership and it's been fine! I feel so much better about it all now that I have read other people's stories but am still worried about getting a bad credit rating! I think if they send anymore letters I'll just print this whole forum and post it to them ha ha. Any tips welcome)

hi michelle
send this letter below to them
Dear Sir /Madam
CONSUMER CREDIT ACT 1974
(name of the gym)
As I am sure you are aware on (date) I signed a gym membership contract at the above premises. I am now writing to formally terminate/cancel without penalty, my credit agreement for the above gym membership. In addition to arguments I have over misrepresentations made to me in the Survey UK flyer, subsequent telephone call and the way I believe I was conned into signing the agreement I have been advised that you failed to comply with the Consumer Credit (Disclosure of Information) Regulations 2004. Under these Regulations I was supposed to be given a sheet headed "Pre-Contract Information" prior to signing the credit agreement. I was given this document only after I had signed and therefore under the Act the agreement is only enforceable with a court order which Trading Standards have advised me is highly unlikely to be granted under the circumstances.
I have cancelled my standing order and I do not expect to receive any further demands for payment and should I do so I will complain to the Office of Fair Trading that their debt collection guidance has been breached.
Yours faithfully
Keep a copy yourself to prove u canceled it, then don't worry about it!0 -
I've heard that my old address is still recieving lots of my old mail...funny thing is that I've told everyone of my new address...except this lot. Who know's...haha who cares..I don't..I told 'em once "end of"..so be it!
Haha UPDATE....I've just dug out my letters all sealed & ready to go (which I prepared November last year), stating my new address etc...& of course my complaint to them etc etc. I never did send these ones but they were intentionally written to cancel the SECOND named membership (my wife's)....now I'm thinking after what littlemissnoodles has posted above that maybe I should post these after all...just to state this in writing.
I won't be telling them my new address though!!!! (But I will tell them I have moved ;-))
Oh can't they just fold in this climate! rather see them go than some of the businesses currently suffering!!0 -
Hi all latest update i had a letter to say that the membership had been cancelled and that no more dd would be taken.
my advice is to cancel dd write them letters to all involved ie AMC /Fitlife registered letters so they have to sign for them contact your Tradeing standards for assistance \ go to the gymnasium who hold membrship they have more input than they want to admit to
good luck my dispute is now over0 -
Well this company is still operating the same tactics, my daughter joined a gym in Southampton a couple of months ago and signed up because of the free offer etc. (despite always being told don't sign anything!).
She has received a letter from Fitness Finance stating that her account will be handed over to a debt collection agency, sound familiar?
So this thread has been very useful, thank you all who have contributed as it's saved me a lot of time trawling through contractual law.
I will instruct her to cancel her S/O and forward the aforementioned letter to these neer do wells. As they are based in my hometown it is rather tempting to draw peoples attention to the pitfalls of being duped by this company by means of my own advertising campaign.0
