Thankyou moo cow! I have only been in this situation for about two months, and i am already fed up with it, so I can imagine how you must be feeling. I don't scare easily and I haven't got much to loose unlike some people. I find it very disheartening that there are people out there very willing to take advantage. Also, after reading some comments on here of pensioners and people who have had medical advice not to use the gym and these ******* (insert what you will!) are still trying to take advantage!
I am very willing to go to court and if anybody else does actually get a court summons (highly unlikely!) I would be happy to back them up!!
Anyway, at least in my e-mails they can not say I have been rude, aggressive or threatening unlike they have! I am actually looking forward to receive another letter from them if they have the balls......I want to know what they have to throw at me next!!!0 -
Hello All
Guess I am one of the latest to be caught out in this scam. I received my 'Congratulations slip' in the post mid February (I live in the Cambridgeshire area). I joined very quickly due to them telling me the offer ran out on the Monday. Like everyone I was lied to and no Pre Contract Info was given prior to signing and I was not told this was non-cancellable. I took out two memberships and both standing orders (now cancelled) were set up from my bank account. I have written to AMC twice and contacted the Trading Standards. I am about to write my third letter to tell them I am not entering into any more correspondence as we just keep going round in circles. I have advised AMC that I have contacted TS and that I was misled and misinformed at the time of signing and I will not be bullied into maintaining payments for something that was not explained fully to me in the first place.
I have also recently noticed that my Pre Contract Info sheet, which I found tucked into the folder behind everything else, is blank. I thought this was a carbonated sheet and my details copied through from the form I filled in? Has anybody else had this?
Anyway I want to thank you all so very much for everything that's on here, is has helped me no end and I intend to fight my corner now, knowing that I am not alone. I may have given in otherwise. THANK YOU. xx0 -
OK it's been a few posts since I been here but I gotta say 'Lots of Love' LOLOLOL!

I am writing to complain after receiving two letters this week regarding the above accounts. These letter demanded money from me; I would like to point out that I wrote to you in August 2008 cancelling my membership due to the fact that I was misled about the Terms and Conditions.
I received no reply to my correspondence and no effort was made by you to obtain any further payments. At this stage I assumed the matter had been resolved and that I would have no further contact with you regarding this issue.
How wrong I was! To receive a letters demanding money 9 months after closing my account is ridiculous. I immediately called ECI ltd regarding this matter and was informed that the membership was non-cancellable, however before I signed up I specifically asked about cancelling my membership should the need arise and was assured that it could be terminated at anytime. The reason for asking about cancellation procedures was two fold I have health issues which can sometimes prevent me from working out, and should my health deteriorate I obviously would not require a gym membership. I only signed the form after assurances about the cancellation procedure.
I was also informed that the form I was signing was a Standing order mandate, I later found out it was a credit agreement (which if I had known I would not have signed). The employee at the Gym managed to conceal this part of the form from us by covering it with a bright pink leaflet which was stapled in the top corner and paper clipped in the opposite bottom corner.
I also never received any form of documentation once I had signed.
After receiving your recent letter, I did some research online and ascertained that I am not the only person this has happened to. From the reports I have read the above situation had been repeated across the country. A large number of people have signed for something that is NON-CANCELLABLE.
If you persist in chasing this money from me, you will leave me no option but to contact Trading Standards and Watchdog. I feel that the public should be warned about your companies’ unscrupulous ways.
I expect the next correspondence I receive from you will to be confirm this matter is at an end.
Regards

Hi folks, Newbie here....although been following this thread for sometime now. I myself am in the same position as many of you. Threatening letters stating my credit record will be damage etc etc.
They have sent my numerous letters over the last few months, so i emailed them telling them about the fliers and how they are now illegal now, never told i was signing a credit agreement and conned into it basically.
Well today i recieved a letter, AGAIN, with a copy of the so called agreement, and lots of other bumf, i was told i was signing for a standing order to pay for maintanance and up keep of the gym, well... thats what i was told and my friend who joined too that day, also heard only maintanance and up keep, she too, was not aware of any credit agreement.
Sorry am bafling on here.
Tomorrow i plan to go to citizens advice and see what they have to say about it all.
Anyone else on this forum in the same situation up here in Fife??
If so perhaps we could make a stance with this company here in Fife, so far i have been reading all about people in England, would be great to know about more folks in scotland.
Cheers all, Nic0 -
Hi all, just join group.
I have had problems with fitlife and thought i would goggle the company and found this site with people in the same boat as me.
I only have found out it was a scam after i cancelled my direct debt, only then was i told that i had taken out credit!!! i am black listed, so what the hell are they doing giving me credit. Ive had a letter saying they are taking me to court on the 19th, its funny how this company have no phone number.
All i could do was email the members club but got told by them that i have to pay!! Well there is no way that im paying up, ive contacted the local paper and trading standards and waiting for reply from them.
The whole joke of this is, is that my friend had won free membership for herself and me,lol, hows it free?????????0 -
was it a proper court summons or just a peice of paper, their just trying to scare you into to paying.

If any of you have the address for these companies, have you tried putting their postcode into MultiMap and looking at the birds eye view, they are both run out of houses, not businesses, dont know how relevent that is0

I am from Falkirk and got caught up in this back in August. It's still ongoing although they seem to be in no hurry to reply quickly. I checked my credit rating and noticed that this isn't even on my record!
If it was credit, they should have followed the correct procedures to check people out to see if they were suitable.
They are just scare mongering in the hope that people will pay. These fliers shouldn't even be getting sent out anymore, they were supposed to be stopped in May 2006!0 -

Well i tried going into see cit. adv. but they were totally mobbed (wonder if some of them were in for the same thing as me :rotfl: )
My friend who i took along with me, isnt bothered at all, and everytime they send out letters to me i start to worry again, so i fire up the laptop, read this thread and feel so much better with posts from others supporting others. I feel better when a hear 'they're just at it' and so forth. Just wished a had never went ahead with the bl))dy thing.
With regards to the last post there, i was exactly the same as you, put a search on and the first hit was this forum, just goes to show eh.
I would just like to say to all, thanks for posting all your comments, because then i know this company are at it big time with the threats of court and so on. Cheers guys :T0
