Well today Tim advised me via a pm to call the telephone with a different phone than I had been using. I did this but asked my partner to call. Someone answered, a man, and my partner said that it was taffyscot and what was happening.
The man asked if it was about the mattress and my partner said yes. He said Paul was in Spain until Friday and he had asked his brother to take care of it and he ddn't. I shouted over that he was supposed to be back on the Friday gone and the bloke said no it is next Friday and that he said he would take care of it as soon as he came back. I told my partner to ask who he was then answering Paul's phone he said his name was
and he is paul's business partner. What do you all make of that? Of course stupid me wants to believe here is a glimmer of hope.
he then said is this the number that paul can call you on when he comes back NEXT Friday.
funny how that phone never got answered when it was my home phone number calling, and funny how someone would answer another person's phone. should I do anything else? anyone want to pm me with any kind of advice at all please do. taffy

I think you know the answer, Taffy.
You are being given false and empty promises. The seller probably answered the phone himself and gave you a load of old bull about being someone else.
You know it, in your heart of hearts, don't you?
You are being given some cracking advice from Soolin and Tim - make sure you follow it.0 -
i recommend small claims court0

If paypal fails in this instance I would also be taking this straight to court.
I might have given them the benefit of the doubt before, but now this is getting scammier and scammer with each lie they tell.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Unless anyone on here knows better, I think that because this is actual theft you may be able to involve the police rather than dragging it through the courts.
Whatever action you decide to take, you need to inform him that you are taking legal action.
Just out of interest, has he given you an address?0 -
Actually, Tim, I wonder if it might be worth the OP going to have a little chat with the police today, even before paypal do their stuff? We've ha dinstances on here before where police have actively assisted scammed buyers, possibly on a slow police day..and Sunday would seem to be an ideal day to try.
OP have you tracked the seller to an address that works?
Also taffyscot, you do need to be quite pro active here as you are in quite a good position at the moment as you know the seller (or someone claiming to be a business partner) was around when you called yesterday..it may well be worth persuing this actively today.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes it is worth calling the police - but Sunday is the busiest day in many Force areas (the morning after the night before!) It's also likely that officers who specialise in internet crime won't be working today.
I would recommend using the online crime reporting/advice system.
You write brief details and someone calls you back - but at least you have made a record with the police. Look up you local Force's website, give them a ring and/or use the online crime reporting system.
Here's a good example of one from Avon and Somerset .
It's one of those cases where the exact crime committed against Taffy won't be known until the seller is interviewed. On the face of it, it's a theft, but the seller might say that he intended to deliver or refund. It might also be a fraud - for instance, he might not even have a mattress/bedding.
Obviously, it would be extremely helpful to the enquiry if the seller's name and address were known. His phone number isn't always enough - he might dump it.0 -
I don't know his address as he was arranging a courier supposedly from his place to mine. Could I get his address from paypal? So the police thing should I go to my local office or what? I live in Scotland and the seller is in Devon so who would cover this?
Yes Kay I think it was the seller on the phone but unfortunately I made my partner call because I thought it would make a difference with a male voice but I should have gone on the phone. My partner got completly flummoxed and I would have been more assertive I would have asked him a lot more.
If I called again what should I say? This bloke said he was the other one's business partner I would have/ should have asked what business is that.
I will read the link that Kay posted here. Thanks so much for all your advice and concern everyone. It has helped me immeasurably with calming myself down being able to express it on here.
How could someone expect to get away with this tho. Do they not have to have a genuine address to open up a bank account and do they not have to have a genuine bank account to be on paypal?
Will the police be able to track them down or will they not care as it is a small amount to them?
