Paid for mattress and wool bedding paypal, seller is not replying to my emails or tel

Thanks all for your comments. What I find disconcerting is that the so called seller said after my payment went through that he would see to sending it right away. He never mentioned he would be out of the country and that someone else would be sending it. Also if this was true would he not have written to me telling me the other person's telephone number.
I still haven't started a dispute as the money is long gone now if it is a scam and paypal says you have 45 days to start the dispute/
I am still hoping that the seller will come back from Spain and contact me and I will get the mattress next week.
I suppose I am being naive but if I have that time frame then I do not think it would do any good getting the dispute started and I fear that if he is genuine I might alienate him and he will slow things down because he thinks I am being unreasonable.
Why I thought he was genuine was I have watched the progress of this mattress being advertised and the first ebay listing stated pick up only. He did not have any bids on this. So when it came on with a £50 delivery I thought he must be genuine because the first time he advertised it someone would have had to go to his house to pick it up.
Stupid me of course he could have not given his address or given a false one but lots of times when things are picked up you only part with the cash at that point.
Is there any advantage to me starting a dispute, given that the money went out of my account immediately? The seller is not listing because it seemed as if he didn't really use ebay much. Said this mattress and merino bedding was a gift to them and his partner is allergic to wool.
Thanks again for all your help.

The main advantage to beginning the dispute process is that it will act as a swift kick up the sit-upon to the seller. If he or she is genuine then they will taker prompt action. If they are not genuine - you'll know about it sooner rather than later.0

I agree with Kay Peel.
Do you have the item number for the original ebay listing?0 -
Hi yes I still have the item number and the whole ad saved in my watching file. Where do I go from here? Is there anything specific that I have to do? Anyone done it before is it pretty easy or quite complicated. Thanks for all your help. Will do it tomorrow bright and early.

Any chance you could give us the item number so that we can have a look at the listing?0 -
I personally cannot see how the seller may not be genuine. Sorting out eBay stuff can be very time consuming, especially with the complications of postage and packaging if you're not an experienced seller. I normally allow around two weeks for an item to be delivered. I give one week for money to clear and a week for the seller to get the item in the post, and Royal Mail to get it to me. I wouldn't hassle a seller as it's likely to just wind them up and make them less understanding.
Your sellers friend may be having trouble sending the mattress. Your seller leaving the country may have been a last minute decision. There are many good reasons which your seller may not have been able to pass on to you yet.0 -

Regulars on here will know that I usually come across as very pro ebay and paypal, yet even i would not be as bold to make a statement like that, I can see several reasons why this seller might be a problem.
As for waiting a week for payments to clear, if you use paypal then payments (apart from echeques) are clear instantly so why wait? Any seller who understands how paypal works with ebay would also be aware that by waiting 7 days before despatching they stand to lose whatever seller protection they might have orignally had.
I would also take issue with the statement that post and packing can be difficult and whilst I agree I would suggest that anyone who finds it too difficult to despatch in a sensible time frame (ie within a week) should not be listing. Maybe if it is that difficult they should stick with things that can go in a plain envelope.
You will notice that Tim Deegan has posted on this thead that he also sells beds and mattresses and due to the problems with couriers now very sensibly arranges his own. That shows a good honest and trustworty seller who has gone out of their way to make sure the buyer gets their goods promptly. The seller in this initial thread does not show such positive leanings towards customer service.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I disagree. If selling a large bulky item like a bed then the seller should have sourced the delivery options before listing othewise how would they know what to charge. 2ndly if they were leaving the country suddenly why not drop a quick email to the buyer - especially considering they are now sitting with over £300 of someone elses money. And 3rdly I have bought beds twice from ebay - from individuals - and both times, delivery was not an option, it was collection only. It is quite rare to buy a large item from a personal seller who will offer delivery, it is only the business that offer this service. This guy is claiming it was an unwanted gift so is definitely not in the furniture business.
Don't want to frighten the OP in any way - but I would raise a dispute / claim with paypal asap.:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
This seller should be back from spain now.
Has OP heard anything from him?I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
