Paid for mattress and wool bedding paypal, seller is not replying to my emails or tel

I am in a blind panic. Saw a merino wool and memory foam mattress and merino wool bedding on ebay. My partner has Parkinson's Disease and even tho we could ill afford such a purchase had read about the pain relief that merino wool can give someone particularly for bad cramps.
Looked at the listing and it was too expensive, buyer had a buy it now price that we could not afford. It was relisted and I still could not afford it and I contacted the buyer and asked if he would accept less money. He said he would but gave me a price that I still could not afford. The Ebay auction was still ongoing and this was his third listing of the product. Nearing the end of the auction he contacted me with an amount of £325 and £50 for delivery. I scrounged all my money and transferred my squirrelled away hoard in quidco and agreed.
He sent me a paypal invoice and I paid it. That was over a week ago. He acknowledged the payment and said he would send the items out.
Since then I have contacted him three times by telephone and numerous emails asking when I can expect the bedding and mattress. He has not replied.
What do I do now? I feel sick. Do I put in a claim to paypal? I have told him in emails and on the telephone that I just need a reply from him to know what is happening and when I need to stay in as the package will be delivered by courier. I have heard nothing back at all since his acknowledgement.
Oh dear God will paypal even give me part of my money back if this is a scam? I paid by paypal but it was outside of Ebay just a paypal invoice sent to me. Does this matter? Any advice would be gratefully received and if any one wants to pm me with advice I would be grateful as this is a public site.
Thanks Taffy

I've gone so far through the resolution pages it is asking for the paypal transaction number, not an ebay one.
Paypal is used by other places apart from ebay so I would really go through the resolution process, it may be enough to get the goods sent to you, because if it's found in your favour they will put the money back in your account and the seller will be losing out.Payment a day challenge: £236.69

But isn't that only if the money is in his paypal account? Can they still refund if he has transferred the money to his bank?0 -
Just to add that a week is a short time though,Payment a day challenge: £236.69

What's the seller's feedback like? Have other buyers commented on the length of time taken to send their item?
I agree that, for your own peace of mind, it would have been kind (as well as more professional) for the buyer to send you an acknowledgement, but I think you've got to calm down a bit and think rationally.
Yes, they have been rude, neglectful, slow and unprofessional - but that doesn't mean that it's a scam and that you'll not see the goods. The goods aren't just something you can stick in a jiffy bag and post - they've got to be boxed and packed, arrangements made with couriers, collected....and so on.
They may just be fed with (what they see as ...) the constant, badgering, persistent emails.
Relax. If the goods don't arrive you will get a refund from Paypal, after going through the Buyer's Protection process.0 -
Thanks for that Kay I needed that. Will I really get all my money back from paypal if the goods do not turn up? The seller's feedback well that's what I am worried about. He only had 3 feedback of course all of them positive. If I will get all my money back I will relax but I tried reading the rules and it wasn't very clear on the amount and looked like less than what I paid. Thank you for your words of encouragement tho.
