Yes I guess I did think he was going to send it but I still went to the police. I feel more dreadful now and yes I am just plain stupid why don't you say stupid not daft.I'm disappointed in you, Taffy! Either you're daft or extremely gullible.
I apologise for sounding so harsh, but I hope it will make you sit up and think.
Haven't you phoned Paypal yet? Why not?
You are dealing with a conman. Mention of the police spurned him into getting back to you with another pack of lies. That's all. Your phonecall was a waste of energy - unless of course you asked him his full name and address. Did you find out his name, at least?
You don't honestly think this thief and fraudster is going to send any bedding, do you?
You have had a lot of sympathy and concern from this board. We want you to win. We are backing you all the way. But it's like banging one's head against a brick wall.
"You won't get your money back unless you follow the original advice that you were given from Soolin and Tim. For god's sake do it. "
I thought I did follow the advice of Soolin and Tim and did escalate it to the next level with paypal and call the guy using a different phone no that Tim suggested.
Anyway off to pack before the police come.0 -
Then I contacted Ebay as I had originally bid on the mattress the first time around. They sent me info just saying it was Devon and confirming his telephone number.
I do hope you mean Dover, as a reply to someones question on the ebay listing said 'Yes you can collect from me in dover'.
Also Taffyscot, does the mattress contain springs?0 -
Glad to hear things are looking up. As asked before - will anybody be in for collection? Also could you as parcel force for the address of the seller or any details etc?0

Paypals business support line is still open until 8pm. I know it is the wrong department for you, but they may be able to help, especially if you tell them that the police are now involved.
Their number is 0870-730-18800 -
Taffyscott don't beat yourself up. These things happen, we were have all made mistakes in our lives through being too trusting.
There used to be a little computer shop near me, I used them on and off over a couple of years, They were friendly and managed to keep my increasingly decrepit laptop alive at reasonable rates. Anyway, one day I was passing and saw they had a great deal for a reasonable spec desk top. I went in, placed an order and paid £100 deposit. They didn't take credit cards, but I'd dealt with them often enough to know I could trust them. So anyway I went on holiday for a week, with the agreement that they'd come round and set it up for me when I got back.
When I got back the shop was boarded up and they'd gone bust. Apparently they'd done a moonlight the very next day. They ovbiously knew they were never going to deliver the goods even as they were putting my money in the till.
Its water under the bridge now, and I have saved much more than that being on MSE, so I just put it down to experience.
The point is - everyone makes mistakes.
Hugs

Thanks Daisy I needed that. Police just came by and did an incident report and I did phone paypal before I saw Tim's message telling me it was still open. They have sent him 2 letters and he has until May 19th to respond or they will rule in my favour. They will try and get the money back out of his account and if not send a collection agency around. They say they have to have real bank info and the banks have to have info with someone's address on it before they will open an account. So there you have it.
2 feathers or 2 bricks on Wednesday that is when parcelforce said it would be delivered nowt more that I can do. My partner will be around on Wednesday as he cannot come out the same time as me.
Tune in on wednesday for the next episode of the cliff hanging mattress from Dover.
Police didn't think that a scammer would answer the phone or call back or go to the effort to send the parcel. They thought they would throw the phone away and never respond. Who knows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
taffyscot don't feel too bad about things, the best conmen are believable, that's why they are the best. I could tell you a story (but I won't) about how 13 years ago or so I was so taken in with a pair of very charming con merchants at the bank I worked for that I actually gave them tea and biscuits as I felt sorry about keeping them waiting to get their hands on several thousand pounds. The first I knew they were conmen was when the police turned up and arrested them as my colleague had realised what was happening and called for help.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Good on yer, TaffyScot. You've phoned Paypal and they are on the case. You've reported the seller to the police and they are on the case too.
Now you can go to Canada in the knowledge that the seller is on the back foot. Have a great time.0 -

Soolin please pm me the story it sounds really interesting. I too used to work in a bank in Canada and someone got a draft made out for half a million dollars and I co-signed it but the other signing officer was the manager and it was the teller's fault for not putting a hold on funds that the con man had deposited.
He bought gold with it from another bank and they called to see if the signing officers were real and our page numbers. I confirmed that it was a true draft and the funds were in the account but the teller over the other side of the huge downtown bank had taken huge deposits off the bloke and had not verified them.
