I am going to join you all on this months GC it's my 1st time so go easy on me
.
I have estimated that i would normally spend about £400 a month on my groceries that for 2 adult my children 15,13,6 and 2.
It will be tough this month as i have practically used up all my stores last month because DH did'nt have much work (self-employed) and money was tight. It is also my DS3's birthday and i am having a little tea party for him so wich me look;) .
Clare.x.
Good luck Mophead in the challenge. I don`t know how you do it, I used to spend £400+ a month on just 2 adults and 2 children. Manage last month, just under £300, so again this month have put £300, but trying hard for £200 if I can:rolleyes:Grocery Challenge 2013: July week 1 £90/£87.41
week 2 £90.00/£118.38:eek: week 3 £90/£60.54:jweek4 £90/£79.90 week5 £45/£00
End of mortgage april 2030
Mortgage overpayment from june 2013 aiming for £400 a month: £451
Emergency fund 2013 from june £700 -
just popped on to catch up on everybody's posts & to update my siggy
went into town this morning and spent total of £19.18
got some pork mince to go with the beef mince i have in the freezer....gonna have a go at a meatloaf recipe i saw on one of the other threads for Sunday dinner. i'll do that with mash and onion gravy
i also got toothpaste and toilet rolls and chocolate from the "cheapy" shop
the rest was just a top up of f&v to get us thru the w-end
i seem to have done brilliantly this week on my budget ( pats self on back)
i get my grocery money weekly, and i can't believe i've still got £40 in my purse :j
hopefully i should only need milk and maybe potatoes over the week-end, so i'll get one of Mr M's sacks at £3.79, cos they lasted me the month last time
oooh! i've also bought myself one of those sealed tins from the £ shop (with Harry potter on, cos it was all they had!) and every week i'm gonna empty my purse into it with whatever i have left over. lets see how long i can go without getting the can opener out :rotfl:
oh and my dogs got some free chew sticks off a lady who came to collect some sim cards i'd put on freecycle, so everyone's happy!!:D
hope everyone else is having a good day x0 -

Afternoon everyone!
In Search of Me: Thanks for the suggestion of looking at Quidco for an alternative source for Hills pet food, that hadn't occurred to me at all. I'll go and investigate and report back! I've tried him on the equivalent Royal Canin food but he wouldn't eat it - he just looked at me like I'd completely lost the plot.
madmittens: I've checked the small print on the pet insurance - they only cover food if it's to help with crystals in the urine. The food Benson has to have isn't covered - typical!
Since having a good read of this thread yesterday, I've come over all 'Nigella'.
I made the courgette tea bread last night - thanks to whoever came up with that one, it's wonderful! Mr L loves it too.
This morning, I peeled some potatoes for tonight's dinner, then I made a huge vat of roasted vegetable pasta sauce for the freezer, followed by an apple and sultana crumble (I also managed to find some calvados in the cupboard to give it a bit of oomph).
I had a cauliflower and some broccoli that needed to be used, so I made Jamie Oliver's cauli and broccoli cannelloni, except I had no cannelloni, so it morphed into a lasagne. Still looks good though, I'll be freezing it when it's cooled. I'll be making some red wine, onion and cumin gravy later to have with some sausages tomorrow night (another Nigella recipe).
At the moment I feel pleased with myself. Let's hope it lasts for the rest of the month!

Will go now and do something useful

is this the one you're looking for
Have a great recipe for homemade bean burgers which my kids love and they are really cheap to make
you need
1 onion finely chopped
1 carrot grated
small pepper finely chopped
1 clove garlic finely chopped
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp mild chilli powder
2 x 425g tins ready cooked beans(I use kidney beans, borlotti beans or pinto beans depending on what is in cupboard)
1 tbs olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Fry onion, pepper, carrot and garlic in olive oil until softened.
Add ground coriander and chilli powder.Stir for a minute.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Mash beans well and mix the cooked mixture in with them.
Shape into 6-8 burgers and bake at gas mark 6 on a baking tray until golden brown
All you lovely people that leave these recipes, I've been kind of making a recipe book of all the ones i want to try over the next month or so.
Anyone know where has in stock the Kenwood mini chopper (as featured on Delia), can't see to find it anywhere0 -
Spent £2 yesterday at while waiting for the kids to finish gym. On a coffee for me and squash for dd. This has to come out of grocery budget as i have no other budget to take it from, am annoyed at myself now.
Did get some mozarrella for 9p in morrisons when I went in for milk. Making homemade pizzas for tea now. total spent yesterday £3.43. sig updated.MFW - aiming to pay off mortgage in considerably less than 22years 6months.
borrowed £60,779.23 interest only/£74,573.36 repayment0 -
Well, I did start off with very good intentions, I brought my lunch in with me as usual, BUT, somebody suggested ordering chinese for lunch
so yes, I has some. I did restrict myself to boiled rice and curry sauce so the damage was only £2.80 and I can eat my lunch for dinner tonight ?? (who am I trying to kid I ask myself?)
Hey ho, off to edit my signature

Afternoon all
Lizzieanne...glad MR L like the teabread..it is rather yummy isn't it
Well :j MrM DOES like the date n pineapple slices...result-he doesn't usually have much of a sweet tooth but thats 2 things i have made in 2 weeks that have been a hit..and he is going to take some into work to share... the men love it although they are still a little amazed that i make everything from scratch
.....
Whilst wallowing in the bath i was pondering all the variations that could be made of the bars.... so the next batch will be a concotion... was thinking that you could replace the dates with sultanas... would be quite a bit cheaper, although i fancy replacing them with apricots  not cheaper but yummy i bet -mind then hubby wouldn't eat them (the only food he won't eat)have desicated instead of shredded coconut, add cherries... and even a few choc chips for those that like them... heck i need to get out more
I have 2 of those index boxes that i keep recipes in..but with all the recipes i keep getting off of here im going to need some more soon...oh and im all excited as my mum was sorting out my old bedroom cupboard and came across one of those big sets of recipe card sets that you used to get years ago.. my mama gave it to me about 20 years ago..i had forgotten all about it...i can't wait to see it again -i bet there are some cracking recipes in it :T
Right i will get off again and read some more recipe books/magswell its research really isn't it
Searching me...congratulation -thrilled to bits for you..congratulations..obviously ice cream is essential for the bump-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
